It is easy to be cynical and judgemental, it has been normalised in mass media.

All we can do is hope people are good, or at least try to be, until proven otherwise. I'll hold on to that hope, too.

Assuming religion defines someone is a lazy short-cut to othering. There are evil people who wrap themselves in religion, justifying inhuman actions. There are more good people if you look close. I judge people on how they choose to act, how they treat others, how they choose to speak of others.

I think you are being too literal. Sharing your woe, not literally, "we are all taking a flogging". Empathy is a good. It is foundational to building societies. A lack of it leads to destruction of societies. The suffering in Gaza, Ukraine, and many other places in the world shows a lack of empathy.

If you visit Australia, try the coffee. It is roasted is brown to dark brown, not the blacken beans you get in America. Lightly roasted coffee does not taste of bitter smoke, it tastes of coffee. One happy moment I start my day with is a 2Xdoppio of Australian coffee.
