GOP seem to prize power above everything. They are content to rule without challenge over a country that is discredited, whose vaunted institutions are crumbling, and whose economy will decline rapidly as soon as it is clear that data about it have less credibility than Greek numbers in 2012.

Why would anyone buy US bonds if the statistics on which their value is based is not to be trusted? Destroying the legitimacy of BLS and the Treasury also destroys the legitimacy of the greenback. The dollar is just a piece of paper.

Protests have sprung up in response to Jeff Bezos and Lauren SΓ‘nchez's Venice wedding, including a variety of life-size mannequins placed throughout the city.

The satirical project is protesting the billionaire's wedding as a symbol of unchecked wealth inequality. wapo.st/3I1z8hU

Somebody should tell this fine gentleman what the Framers thought of Germans (Ben Franklin was a super fan) and the Irish (delightful pogroms in several cities), and Eastern Europeans (his last name). And law students should do us a favor and read some sociology and domestic real history.

This demonstrates the power of national myth making. People adopt the myths that elites and institutions present as dominant.

Immigration Research Shows Stephen Miller Wrong About American Science Stephen Miller, the chief architect of Trump immigration policy, argues that American scientific achievement owes little to immigrants.

Stephen Miller said recently that American scientific achievement in the mid-20th century owed little to immigrants, given immigration quotas at the time.
Someone should tell him that from 1945- 1974, 16 of the 30 U.S. winners of the Nobel in physics were immigrants www.forbes.com/sites/stuart...

Trump administration takes action on illegal immigrants getting Medicaid This effort marks an escalation in federal and state tensions over Medicaid eligibility and the use of taxpayer funds.

This is well-meaning but what it proposes may well be counterproductive. Correctionof false narratives may actually strengthen said narratives.

The GOP Budget: Tax Cuts for the Wealthy and More Medical Debt for Everyone Else - Roosevelt Institute The GOP’s reconciliation bill, the "One Big Beautiful Bill Act" (yes, it’s actually called that), is a cruel exercise in slashing benefits for the poor, the elderly, and the sick to free up fiscal space for yet more tax cuts for the rich.

The GOP’s reconciliation bill plans to offset tax cuts for the wealthy with massive cuts to health-care programs that could result in 13M more uninsured individuals.

@socio-steve.bsky.social outlines how these "savings" are merely another poor policy decision.

Tariffs Can’t Replace the Income Tax - Roosevelt Institute The 1870s were a golden age for tax policyβ€”at least if you ask Donald Trump. It’s true that the US had tariffs, and no income tax, in the late 1800s. It’s worth remembering what else the US didn’t have: Medicaid, federal assistance for primary education, the Environmental Protection Agency, the National Science Foundation, financial support for families struggling to pay the costs of food, utilities, and housing, and so much more.

President Trump wants to replace the income tax with tariffs. That’s not just bad economicsβ€”it’s a plan to defund the government and shift the burden to working families.

In our essay collection, @dashching.bsky.social‬ tackles why this matters.

A '22 report found that ~107M US adults carry some form of medical debt, and ~62M have medical debt that is past due.

The medical debt crisis isn’t just bad luck or bad decisionsβ€”it’s the result of decades of policy decisions. We can choose to do better.
