Gorgeous shot!

A large dark grey lizard with mostly yellow markings is sitting on a rock. Behind its head is a large flap of skin, which is mainly used to make the lizard seem larger than it actually is when facing predators. The aforementioned yellow markings are around the eye, mouth, on its throat and on the flap of skin. The lizard is looking to the left in the picture.

🦎Frilled lizard (Chlamydosaurus kingii).

Max. size ~90 cm (~3'). Males are larger than females.

Eats mostly insects and other invertebrates.

Found in northern Australia and southern New Guinea.

Considered Least Concern by the IUCN.

🐸 🌿

A large snake coiled on the brown leaf litter on the forest floor. The snake’s ground color is a yellowish orange, and there are large black rings running down the back - some are circles, and some rings are heart-shaped.

Greetings from Peru! Here’s a Rainbow Boa (Epicrates cenchria) observed on the edge of a rainforest trail a few nights ago. Just a few days left down here and then I head for home. #herps #snakes 🌿
