At a first read of the GPT-5 models initial analyses, there are to me a few things that jump out:
1. Hybrid system that has a router for different models
2. ⁠Not a dramatic leap
3. ⁠Writing, code, health
4. Prices

It can replace some developers but that isn’t usually the focus of a VP or director.

Which is a big part of the issue: AI can’t tell you what customer problems to solve or how to do that in a differentiated way. You can’t yet automate vision.

Just when many companies were learning to focus on outcomes over outputs… along comes AI.

• 16 year old is on an educational trip
• 18 year old just stayed out
• On average, each of my 3 kids have permission 1.0x

Though I will say what is superior about LUB is it makes explicit that learning is in service of insights and actions.

If feature evaluation as part of BML is performative and doesn’t lead to a “so what” then it’s much less useful!

Both can be useful and either are better than naive belief in blind delivery. Using them in combination is ideal. There are nuances about when and how to use each.

Once teams experience great outcomes they will be less excited about outputs alone. Hopefully this will become more and more prevalent!

The biggest gap I see isn’t teams putting “learn” in the wrong order. It’s thinking they don’t have time.

Learning should be ubiquitous: before, during & after. Learn by studying the customer & their problems. Learn by evaluating usage and results. Different types & costs.

Just keep learning.
