ICYMI: I did some #ocean 🌊 #science πŸ§ͺ vlogs from the #RAPID expedition to study the Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation. The #AMOC keeps northern European climate temperate so understanding how it may change should be something we all care about.

Hi Miguel. We have the calibration process starting now we have all the data. Obviously that takes a bit of time, but we will release the data with a doi and a public update to the RAPID timeseries by September.

And we are right into it. Our first CTD cast, measuring temperature, salinity and oxygen down to 1500 m. Still excited!

We are here to learn more about the Atlantic Meridional Circulations.

The #AMOC moves warm water from the tropics and to northern Europe and keeps our climate nice and temperate (not that it probably feels like that this week back in the UK!).

I am really looking forward to spending some time at sea, getting involved in some of the science and really getting a feel for what observational oceanography is all about. #ModellersAtSea

🌊 Today in @nature.com: Is the AMOC on the brink of collapse?

Unlikely before 2100β€”but the risks are real 🚨

We find Southern Ocean winds keep this vital ocean "heat engine" running, even under extreme #climatechange. But the Pacific holds a surprise…

Imagine the moment when someone said - you know what, why don’t we stick sensors in orbit around the earth to measure our environment. And satellite remote sensing was born.

Could this be as transformational? An exciting prospect.
