We lucked out and moved to a sweet neighborhood with a lot of participation, but I fear on the whole it's dwindling. I think those of us who remember should make every effort to plan the hell out of it with our neighbors. My 3 year old had her first trick or treat tonight and she loved it!

Every time my brother and I visited my dad these past few years we would say 'I'm off to go rifle through things!' And we'd just choose drawers to search for treasure and weirdness in (we are 37 and 41 respectively)- i found a calling card from my great grandma from 1918 last time!

My dad passed on the 1st- because my brother lives out of state my family will be moving in to the family home to take care of it and begin organizing things for eventual sale. Tonight, I'm alone here. Discovering little bits and pieces of my entire family's story, missing my parents deeply.

Dad passed away yesterday, the day before the 8th anniversary of mom's passing. It was a hard 8 years without her, I know he couldn't wait to see her. Hospice lasted 9 days, and it was a deeply meaningful experience. He went peacefully with me and my brother at his side.

Here to join what appears to be the grand tradition of live Journaling a loved one's last days here on bsky- my father entered hospice at home yesterday and my brother and I have moved in and taken leave from work to manage his care. Life is a beautiful and hard thing.

Thanks, such a good reminder! I'm really thankful my husband isnt a huge meat eater already, if we had meat with every meal I dont know how we would afford it!

Me too!! We'd already cut down this past year due to cost, but had a look last week wanting to make tacos and was flabbergasted-8.99/lb! We went with ground turkey for $5.50 a lb which is still so much for what used to be such an affordable protein

Unbearable is so deeply relatable to me- this ache is so painful. I think it's important to name this, it feels like our global conscience needs to be remembered.

Talking with a direct report today we realized we had both served the same guy over the years (chronically homeless alcoholic with a big personality) and he told me that he'd passed a few years ago while housed and cared for. I hope Big Red knows we're thinking of him today.

I have been crying all day as I think of my 3 year old- she starts pre school in 2 weeks. I have been wracking my brain all day for what is the right thing to do to stop this from ever happening anywhere, and also to protect my love. I want to puke.
