I had that done the old way with flames, so perhaps my results were less extreme. As long as you're okay, that's good, I was just a bit worried.

If these are the Chinese cups, then that doesn't look right. They leave red rings for a while, but not giant hickeys. Maybe I'm wrong, but are you sure this person is good?
