It's genuinely interesting to see the difference in perception between the public and game devs when dev costs are revealed.

Damn, I missed all of that in their marketing (although was Blue Beetle the first? DC hasnt released many films since then - what, Aquaman 2 and Superman? Or have they been doing it for the trailers of their TV properties too?)

It genuinely took me a moment to realise what they were doing. Amazing.

The Supergirl teaser is great, but can we please give flowers to the people who decided to actually advertise the freaking book the film is loosely based on?

A mainstream comic book trailer is *advertising its company's comics*. Instead of just hiding them.

So true. And with no monetary incentive to act out, they're more likely to provide better engagement that won't derail your conversations or poison any discourse when you're trying to expand your audience.

And even before things went entirely to shit there, discoverability was already a shitshow.

Right?! I'm still slightly blown away by it all. I know for some they need to keep their audience, but when a large chunk of that audience are bots, engagement farmers and bad faith actors, it's hard to see any pluses, even if you can somehow get past the site's owner.

Yeah, the differentiation will be hugely important because we're already seeing reactionary witch hunts. A game I did some writing for had some artwork which was done by real people, and some thought it was AI, which poisoned the announcement conversation.

Frustrating.

A badly burnt, badly rendered talking biscuit, no less.

I'm so tired of the constant bullshit and the need to try and feed us said bullshit (the AI, not the biscuit. Hmm. I probably should get some breakfast).

Annoys me sooooo much.

It's incredible to think. And to lay out a propaganda sob story about "oh, we worked so many hours to create this, AI was just the tool" is painfully transparent.

Instead they get a wave of bad press and negative reception. Hope the pennies saved were worth it!

'We crunched for weeks',

'got paid less than the cast and crew that we could have hired to make this far better and less creepy',

'damaged the environment',

'and *still* created weird, odd-looking slop that we know we couldn't keep YT comments open for',

is quite the flex.

We already know it's happening and been happening for a very, very long time. And the games industry is generally even less diverse than TV and movies.
