Opposite for me: I can't put sugar in my teas. Ruins them for me, but I've forced myself to drink sweet tea when given to me for the same reason. Can't tell a person who offers me tea to chuck it.

Non-fat plain Greek yogurt, generous tbsp cherry preserves, a few 100% dark chocolate shavings. It's not Black Forest, but it scratches close as an evening snack without ruining my entire day. #FoodSky

This has been further explained in the comments; by "dee" I meant "d’ssection". Short i. Many people don't quite get the short v long vowels and "ee" is an approximation of the sound to make it clearly different from "die" while being written.

Monday again, when I totally needed a third weekend day to just rest. Heinous.

We're doing it wrong. All the natives are clearly die-ssectionites.

You do learn certain things that aren't taught in school when doing certain college degrees.

SOTLB is black metal and objectively their best. Reinkaos is death metal. I *love it* myself, but I can see why other fans were mad.

I thought you were a native speaker! Totally agree re the many exceptions to the rules and regional accents. All the answers I'm getting attest to that.

09.03.2026 05:21 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

D'ssection is my standard pronunciation, too, and I am no strangers to Reinkaos trolling (I honestly love Reinkaos so much lol. It's just not black metal)

09.03.2026 05:17 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

The thing is, Dee/D'ssection puts the stress on the second syllable. DiSSECtion. But DIEssection puts the stress on the first syllable. DIssection. You see what I mean? This is the hidden reason behind my question. Where you put the stress in the word is a huge thing for non-natives like myself.

I'm followed by more linguists than I thought, so let me modify the above while still keeping it accessible to non-linguists: D'ssection rather than Dee-ssection.

09.03.2026 04:53 β€” πŸ‘ 4    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Yeah, I totally get that... I don't meet many fellow linguists in my day to day, so I tend to simplify to the extreme.

Yes, that's exactly it, a shortened i. My "ee" is a rough approximation for the average person, because if I simply write "i", most American natives will read it as in "I".

09.03.2026 04:44 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

This is basically how I've said it all my life.

09.03.2026 04:41 β€” πŸ‘ 2    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

The "ee" is merely an approximation for the average English speaker who wouldn't get the phonetic alphabet or a description of short vowels.

Honest never thought about dissection with di- being a prefix but it makes sense. Thanks!

09.03.2026 04:37 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

I can get on board with this.

09.03.2026 04:34 β€” πŸ‘ 3    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

But DIE and DYE are perfect homophones in English!

09.03.2026 04:33 β€” πŸ‘ 2    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

I've pronounced it "DEEssection" all my life until I heard it pronounced like DIEssection tonight. I *love* these things.

09.03.2026 04:29 β€” πŸ‘ 4    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Your native English speaker answers are FASCINATING to me, because *the rule* says that an "i" before a double "s' is pronounced "ee". Think Piss, Diss, Hiss, Miss, Kiss.

I understand. You can and must be proud of how you've regained control of who you are and being in the track you're in right now. It ain't easy, and you've put in the work for it. Congratulations.

You've come a long way, but I refuse to use "disgusting" for ANY of these pics. We fluctuate, we struggle, we try our best and our best is different in different times. I'm stoked for you that you're not feeling like shit all the time anymore. Kudos.
