I saw where Jeff Ament once referred to King's X as the originator of grunge but they don't really fit into that niche themselves. Frankly, it's difficult to find a niche they *do* fit into. No other metal band that I've heard really sounds like this.

Been ordering some cds lately because frankly-while I appreciate the sheer vastness of many services' catalogs-I just cannot find it in me to trust streaming.

Like he's no monster like Phil Spector don't get me wrong but it's obvious that he wasn't afraid to cross lines in order to get a band to perform in the manner he deemed most authentic.

Ross Robinson is obviously a genius producer but every other behind the scenes story I've heard about him makes him sound like an absolute psychopath.

Sorry but I can’t pretend that I’m so cynical that I won’t be excited to hear the Megadeth version of Ride the Lightning. I know the live concerts have deteriorated but afaik they’re still pretty good in the studio.

I thought it was hilarious that in season 6 of South Park they kind of made it obvious that Kyle and Stan only seem reasonable in comparison to Cartman and when paired with anyone else it becomes clear that they're also gargantuan assholes.

Hilarious bit in the hippie episode of the Simpsons where Homer's obviously under the impression that "Uptown Girl" by Billy Joel is one of the major hits associated with that movement.

Slipknot without Jordison's drumming is admittedly very difficult to get used to though. I remember that being a reason I disliked it on my first listen.

Relistened to 5: The Gray Chapters last night. Slipknot is immediately and obviously a different band without Joey Jordison and Paul Gray but I really enjoyed the record regardless.

Still can’t believe they gave Andy Muschietti a Batman movie lol. Guy hasn’t put out a passable film since It Chapter One.

I get that it’s a demo album but if I’m hearing this tape in ‘96 the first thing I’d be recommending is that they find a vocalist that doesn’t sound like that. Anselmo was in like four different bands at that time anyway. There wasn’t really any market for sound-alikes.

Listened to MFKR. You can hear the bones of what Slipknot would become but I’m not surprised that the first vocalist didn’t last. Everyone else was giving their best but it really just sounded like he was doing a Philip Anselmo impression. To the extent that it became distracting.

Relistened to the first four Slipknot records this week. First two are unimpeachable classics imo. Vol. 3 and AHIG are excellent too but a bit lesser if I'm being honest.
