Hey friends of Czar, I have another update. There was a small seizure but he is fine now. Will be in rehab therapy in SF (town) for 6 weeks. But it sounds like he’s making lots of big leaps forward.

Janet remains a standout in any list she’s in!

People need reflection. I regret not having more time with you. Your undeniable beauty and talent were not of this world, and a presence not of this world needs protection in a world that covets light and the anointing of God. You sir, moved us, stirred us, inspired and even intimidated others to action with your genius. Thank you for being a beacon of light to a generation and beyond who had no remembrance of the legacy that preceded us. Thank you for charting the course and for making space during a time when no similar space really existed.

You imaged a unity of strength and sensitivity in Black manhood to a generation that only saw itself as having to be one or the other. It is my earnest prayer that you are in peace, far away from selfishness, fear and/or controlling interests. Far from possessiveness, far from greed, far from manipulation, far from exploitation, far from intentionally designed chaos and that you Brother are in peace, in bliss and in eternal light and fulfillment with our Father in heaven. A risky gamble, and a little too broad, but this *was* pop music coming from a 23-year-old sheltered woman, but the spirit and message are there, aided by Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis’ production and songwriting. Fantastic from start to finish and a crowning achievement in a career full of them.

Yes, there was carefree, sunny bops (Escapade, Alright, Love Will Never Do) & her ballads & bedroom jams (Come Back To Me & Someday Is Tonight), but half the record was devoted to drugs (Black Cat), education (The Knowledge), school shootings (Livin’ In A World) & homelessness (State of the World).

Imagine following up your huge breakthrough album that spawned an entire sub-genre (new jack swing) with a socially conscious album. Do you know the guts that had to take? And this wasn’t in the era of poptimism like we are in now. Janet knew she’d be ripped apart by critics, and some weren’t kind.

Convincing Janet to come outside from her years long hiatus is a flex, but I think it’s just Cardi rapping over that Funny How Time Flies sample she posted a snippet of awhile back.

Crazy how the lasting cultural legacy of Half-Life will end up being skibidi toilet.
