This government is not very good at this stuff.

PROTECT THE NHS. SAVE LIVES. RIDE BIKES. Fewer cars not newer cars! A Moulton and Brompton riding linux-loving cyclist geek. Cos small wheeled bikes rock!

Thank you for that context.
I can see the closed section on maps and that it's single track with no space for a footway. Didn't know about the tunnel. Any widening or anything there would presumably involve substantial works hence the timescale. They just need to suck it up.
Can you imagine any scenario in which this would be feasible today in the UK?! Even if there was good infrastructure the whole way, there's no way all the parents would agree to it due to "concerns" and half the kids wouldn't be physically fit enough.

Hi Bob. For 26 years and counting, I have been following a route to work on my bicycle which is 4 miles longer than it needs to be in both directions because there's literally zero provision for cyclists on the shorter route and it's occupied by impatient, useless drivers.
Hope this helps.
How about no? How about drive less? How about stop building towns and cities that force driving? How about we stop subsidising drivers to the tune of Β£4 to every Β£1 of tax they pay?

Objecting to a road closure to build a footway because:
"It means now my two-mile round trip has escalated into a five-mile round trip," she said.
It doesn't inconvenience a driver that much to do a couple of extra miles.

A snip of a vehicle lease quote for an electric vehicle where the term rod fund licence is used. FFS.
Just seen this on Reddit. A lease quote for an electric vehicle. Arval seems to still think it's the mid-1930s with "road fund licence".

How an electric bike can protect your money as another oil shock hits.
The argument for fossil fuels is ending, but so too is the argument for relying on cars for journeys of under five miles.
Here's some numbers to convince:

This is a good move. A blanket social media ban for under 16s wasn't gonna ever work. And if you ban something, the kids will only want it more.

Fuel has jumped 10p a litre here and is currently Β£1.36. Its still to cheap as people are driving everywhere, idling and wasting fuel.
Adding 2p as increased fuel duty won't make a blind bit of difference to them.

I can't speak for the US but I find in the UK car users tend to overestimate how difficult it would be to replace many car journeys with active or public transport using existing provision, while also underestimating (& refusing to learn) how difficult it is for non-drivers to make certain journeys.

I figured it was always going to end up being about the oil for the usa. This is not some gallant crusade to free the Iranian people, its a heist. Same as Venezuela was.

I came to that conclusion a long time ago. I only ever hit my head on the car when I had a helmet on.
My theory is humans evolved to instinctively know to avoid hitting heads. A helmet messes with that instinct cos the head is effectively bigger.
Tax those massive, and massively polluting, American pick ups into oblivion. This is Hertfordshire not fucking Wyoming.

Ogier said she knew batteries were not allowed to be thrown away in the one-tonne waste bag she had ordered online.
But she said that it did not occur to her that she was doing so because the batteries were in the toys.
Ahh I see we have reached the stage of fuel suppliers being accused of profiteering.
Cos businesses making a profit is only bad when it comes to selling petrol for cars.
Funny how so many unwittingly become communists when it comes down to filling the suv.
I firmly believe helmets should be personal choice.
The problem is that they dont make cycling safer.
I believe the dawned things make cycling less safe. Often wearers take more risks, and drivers take more risks around helmetted riders too.
