This SG thing has me very worried, because I actually, truly am in the process of making a game with some friends haha

We hadn't even thought about SAG-AFTRA and like... Well, the webcomic we're basing it on (The Out-of-Placers) has a large fan base and it's important to us that we do right by them

What if we later contract out some other VA roles, and one of the people insists that we sign with SAG-AFTRA in some kind of fashion.

Then, a lot of public pressure mounts and demands we sign; however, only person involved who wants to is that one outside VA.

Would we be wrong to still not sign?

Quick follow-up: Say I and a couple friends make a game studio. We wear a bunch of hats, and we do the VA ourselves. We all decline to sign any agreements with SAG-AFTRA, we're genuinely not interested.

Do you feel as if that would be in the wrong?

I feel that the only way to guarantee protection for all workers is for SAG-AFTRA to refuse to compromise on AI.

However, if I'm mistaken and SAG-AFTRA can somehow prevent that process, then that would be awesome to hear. <3

My concern is that a company, giving the choice between two SAG-AFTRA VAs, will only hire the ones willing to consent to AI stuff.

Union protections are extremely important, of course, but SAG-AFTRA has had enough of a concerning track record regarding AI that I can understand SG not signing a contract with them.

Last April, @ameliatyler.bsky.social — who is working with SG — had the incident with her voice being stolen.

Despite that, SAG partnered in October with Ethovox.

Also, we can't forget that Amelia Tyler is doing work on Hades 2. That's another big contributing factor.

And seeing that, despite the thing with her being traumatized by her voice being stolen and used for rape porn, that SAG-AFTRA went ahead and partnered with Ethovox.... Yeeeeaaaaah

SG isn't anti-union, but I can see why they wouldn't work with SAG-AFTRA.

Unions aren't the only way to have protections. It's one way of many.

SG has a responsibility to protect their VAs and respect their wishes, and since Amelia Tyler is working with them, what they're doing makes sense.

And while some VAs are okay with using AI—and I don't begrudge them for it—a lot aren't.

However, SG doesn't want to undermine SAG-AFTRA.

Supergiant has a hard-line stance against AI, and working with SAG-AFTRA would undermine that.

For those wondering the "variety of reasons" and why Supergiant won't elaborate... It's mainly because SAG-AFTRA is pro-AI, and working with them would undermine Supergiant's protections.

A SAG-AFTRA contract would require that SGG support the use of AI. Which would undermine their whole stance.

My assumption is that it's because SAG-AFTRA capitulated on the use of AI for voice actors, and SGG doesn't want to call them out about it.
