Last Friday, Councilwoman Traci Park marked the first anniversary of the Palisades and Eaton Fires, honoring survivors and City workers, including EmpowerLA staff. Thank you to all who served during this difficult time, especially Neighborhood Councils across Los Angeles.

It is with a heavy heart that we share the passing of Board of Neighborhood Commissioner Joy Atkinson. A powerful organizer & advocate for women, Commissioner Atkinson faithfully served the South Los Angeles community for decades. Her leadership, dedication, and wisdom will be greatly missed.

We look forward to seeing what 2026 will bring, and know that Neighborhood Councils will continue to play a central role in shaping a stronger, more connected Los Angeles.

It has been a challenging year for our communities, and it was powerful to see Neighborhood Councils show up time and time again to provide for their fellow Angelenos. We are continually inspired by your leadership, resilience, and commitment to making a difference.
