“Why does this movie have the most ripping score? Wonder who that.”

Phewwww it’s so good.

Me watching One Battle After Another: something about this feels familiar but I can’t place it.

*finds out it’s based loosely on a Pynchon novel*

Oh yeah that’s it.

Reading MIDDLEMEN as an ARC: it's sensational. As riveting as it is brilliant. Read it if you want to know how literature gets made now: press.princeton.edu/books/hardco...

Sent! The versioning was sort of a mess. Final proofing for myself, final proofing before Eliza, final final, etc. Don't tell my students!!

But the version I sent has a few substantive changes based on feedback from folks that are worth honoring. Thank you for reading!!

Aww hooray! I’ll send the last version over once I’m done with bedtime in a few.

Oh let me send you the actual final copy I sent out for review! It cites you a couple more times, completely by coincidence. 🙂

I let my father-in-law borrow one of my books from grad school and he couldn’t believe how many times I wrote WTF and LOL in the margins. There is humanity there!

I don't think it is only our job to teach students how to read long novels; it may also be our jobs to teach them how to live without an online surveillance state. To learn without intrusive apps. To swap notes. To write in a book's margins. To exist in their communities in slow, clunky, human ways.

Cartoon. Person says to other person „We invented a robot that answers questions.“, adding, „we just have to feed it 10 baby giraffes a day“. The other person asks „But it answers the questions correctly?“ Person responds „Oh my goodness, no. No no no no no.“

Second all of this. And even those people who do receive high-level training often find writing to be excruciating. It doesn’t have to be misery!

Time for our weekly reminder that there is only one ed tech investment that is proven to work, and it's hiring more teachers and paying them better.

So, I started the new year with a new blog idea: to write about running and gaming, because I like both. (And, honestly, because the url onemorerun.blog was entirely too good to pass up lol.) The more I write, though, the more I realize that I think games share more with athletics than we think.

Thinking through pitches for this has been a real exercise in “what do young folks even consume these days?”

Run through* but you get the idea. Anything meant to be practiced like that I feel can only benefit from having people implement them. It was a peer reviewer for JITP who asked pointed questions that made me realize I needed it.

So I'm considering doing a semi-open review for rough chapters of my new writing project. I don't want to put the whole thing online for reasons. Instead, I am thinking of asking for volunteers to read individual chapters and provide structured feedback through a questionnaire.

What do you think?

I would totally participate if you want! I love this. I also like the idea of getting a committed group of folks to participate in whatever way makes sense to you. My book had some teaching exercises and I had a group one through one of them that I hadn’t actually used before. It was very helpful!

A vibrant, wide-angle photo of a colorful outdoor mural promoting the "Super Bowl LX Apple Music Halftime Show." The mural is painted on a long blue wall in a sunlit, tropical setting with real palm trees and bright pink bougainvillea flowers cascading over the top.

The artwork features a playful, surreal collage of cultural and football-themed elements:

Central Text: The Apple Music logo in bold yellow and red 3D lettering is flanked by "SUPER BOWL LX" above and "HALFTIME SHOW" below.

Iconic Imagery: Large illustrations of a golden trumpet, pink sunglasses, maracas, dominoes, and a cup of coffee with a musical note in the foam.

Football Elements: Brown footballs are depicted growing on palm trees like coconuts and resting on the ground.

Foreground: A young girl in a yellow dress walks along the sidewalk in front of the mural, passing a small goalpost illustration where a green parrot is perched.

The overall aesthetic is warm, festive, and celebrates a fusion of Latin-inspired culture and American football.

I'm going to do a thread of all the references and context behind Bad Bunny's performance and what it means for Puerto Ricans to see this on the biggest stage.

The opening title screen is a street mural in Puerto Rico that comes to life with footballs as coconuts.

Follow along!
