When Algorithms Curate Culture, What Do We Lose?
Michele Y. Smith, CEO of Seattle’s Museum of Pop Culture (MOPOP), examines how A.I.-driven curation is reshaping what we watch, listen to and value, and what’s being lost in the process. Smith argu…
Here is another issue with AI that needs to be recognized. Humans are erratic and impulsive. When everything is curated by AI we will lose the narrative voice of humanity. The one that isn’t what the algorithm thinks it should be. And, in turn, we lose ourselves.

The best part of discovering dramatic family history events before the holidays is realizing the non-living ancestors will provide prime conversation fodder so I don't have to gossip about the living ones.
You're welcome, family!

A lot of generation la claim their generational name later in life, but I’m wondering which one - Generation Z or Generation Alpha - will be later dubbed “Generation AI.”
My guess is Generation Alpha.

It’s is a toxic trait when you interrupt every family story with, “Well, actually, if you look at the 1900 census…” when no body asked?

Today, I’m off to the library! As I pack up my supplies, (snacks, power cables, list of things I hope to discover), I remember that wearing layers when doing genealogy research is key. Libraries are either Arctic tundra or the tropics. There is no in-between.

Let’s be clear about what happened to Jimmy Kimmel
Trump’s most brazen attack on free speech yet.
After years of complaining about cancel culture, the current administration has taken it to a new and dangerous level by routinely threatening regulatory action against media companies unless they muzzle or fire reporters and commentators it doesn’t like.

Maybe AI can now read old handwriting & suggest record matches you’d never find manually. BUT remember, AI suggestions are starting points, not undisputed truth.
Always verify AI with multiple sources. Use artificial intelligence as your research assistant, not your decision maker.

Family History Tip: Don’t just search Ellis Island.
Your ancestors might have arrived in Boston, Baltimore, New Orleans, or even crossed the Canadian border.
Also, search ship manifests for traveling companions. Look for relatives or people from the same village.

Ever tried to find a female ancestor in historical records?
It’s like a treasure hunt where the map is a blank page and the treasure is her maiden name, buried under three layers of marriage records.
