At every Olympics I covered (Barcelona, Atlanta, Sydney, Athens and London) I decided to skip the Opening Ceremonies. Not much happens over five hours. Then I decided to go anyway. And it was always worth it. Can't really explain why hordes of athletes waving is an emotional experience. But it is.

Sen. Tim Scott, a Trump apologist and enabler, said more than he intended in his reaction to Trump's racist post on Truth Social: “Praying it was fake because it’s the most racist thing I’ve seen out of this White House." In other words, he's seen other racist stuff, this was just the worst.

Joni Mitchell, Neil Young and The Band notwithstanding, I didn't understand how cool Canada was until I began watching the SCTV sketches in the mid-70s. Levy-Flaherty-Candy were all cool, but the coolest might've been Catherine O'Hara. RIP to a legend.

With "Melania" opening today--in theaters near you!--I'm speculating about which movie box offices our President will invoke as a comparison. I'm guessing "Gone With The Wind," which the movie will be, and "Titanic," the proper adjective to go with "Flop." Thanks for listening.
