We were playing a game recently and the creator was taking about his process. He ran an mtg forum and added ads to pay for development costs, used that to hire artists, and then worked on the game after work part time for like 8 years.

It's definitely not your work, everything is just expensive and bad right now. Hobby costs gotta get cut before food and housing, unfortunately.

Today I ran into a post where a stained glass hobbyist used AI to make a pattern. The pattern ended up unusable, so they were asking pattern artists for help fixing it. And I was just flabbergasted. You could have just had an artist make you a pattern in the first place!

Now we can get you all the sparkly earrings as gifts ;)
