The Afanc is often described as having crocodilian and rodent features, with it living in or near water where it grapples its prey. The Lake Hopper is based on a Welsh Cryptid which looks pretty frog like called Llamhigyn y Dŵr (The Water Leaper). Not hard to see where I got my inspiration.

Technically... no. I've been taking a lot of inspiration from Welsh myth and folklore for the monsters of Raven & Bear. In that sense I didn't really come up with them.

I like to think I've put a unique spin of them though.

So, the story itself implies it takes place six centuries after an apocalypse post-1960s by max four decades. This "calamity" left that area of land irradiated and inhospitable for humans who retreated. Gradually forests overtook it and various "monsters" began to appear from it. So...?

Rhonda's features are adaptations animals in Chernobyl have. Specifically, frogs found in that area are reported to have become melanistic to better cope with radiation as have some wolves. Additionally, a loss of hair and discoloured yellow irises occur when in contact with radiation.

Notably, it says decades rather than anything like half a century or sixty years (as it has been now). Its also stated in that story the area where England used to be has become a forest which makes people sick if they pass through it. Though some people have adapted to this phenomenon.

Perhaps the biggest hint at when the calamity happened comes from the same story where it's first mentioned. Proof Heraldic also has Sir Corbyn tell the story of Tryweryn Valley and how it was flooded by the empire which ruled them before the calamity struck. This really happened in the 1960s.

At several points, characters find pre-calamity tech which hints at when this event occurred and what happened. For instance, Ata finds a record player in Of Dina & Dan. Then, an inn has electrical kettles in The Eisteddfod. Meaning the apocalypse happened relatively close to our time.

This is going to be a thread I can already tell. Simply put yes annd no. In various stories, my characters discuss a "calamity" which happened six centuries ago.

The issue becomes, when was the apocalypse in relation to us.

Context: Madarch uses neo-pronouns, however because these characters speak Welsh I use the Welsh pronouns for they/them to represent neo-pronouns developed within this culture.
