I don't think there is any legal reason for NSPower to have your social insurance number. There are limited, specific situations where you have to provide it. Getting electricity isn't likely one of them. I refuse to provide my SIN to non-authorized entities.

Using "is" when "are" is correct. It's like nails on the blackboard for me.

We have a rather large ficus plant and I keep the decorations and lights in it all year. There aren't a lot of baubles and most of them are not especially Christmas looking. We plug it in when the mood moves us to do so. It's just the two of us and it works for us.

From my walk this morning....I actually got a little lost and found this!

I too have been wondering about protest songs. Maybe the idea is passe now although with social media, the reach today would vastly outstrip the 60's.

MIssing from this list is a wonderful Canadian tea company - Tealyra (unfortunately not on Bluesky). Such a great selection of delicious teas: www.tealyra.ca/about-us/

"start as you mean to go on" in play here. He is no dilettante; he's on a mission and everyone around him will have to up their game. Good. Transition always has its rough spots and they will get sorted. I don't have access to the CP Style Guide. What are FP writers are supposed to follow?

Best if the surnames of the serious candidates are waaaay before polievre Ann his name is stuck somewhere in the last third of the ballot.

Since you don't have to actually reside in the riding, why not?

Or the resignation is just a statement of intent at this time. He'll take his seat for 6 months, qualify for his pension and then pull the plug. The house does not normally sit over the summer so it's not like important parliamentary business will be missed.

Maybe they were counting on Carney taking his sweet time to call the by-election - more than 6 months at which time he would have qualified. Carney stating he will call it right away throws a big wrench in that plan. Just spit-ballin' here.

I'd like to know the basis for their comments. An Act is an Act; not a recommendation.

A quick tour with google suggests than Canada is the only (or among the few) countries that provides this benefit for the leader of the opposition. Britain and Australia do not appear to do so. I think Canada should also dispense with this expense - the sooner the better.

I don't see that in the Official Residences Act.

The party hasn't decided if he stays or goes. If he stays as party leader, charge the CPC the going market rental rate, get a hefty damage deposit and first and last month and make the CPC cover ALL expenses: staff, replairs, modifications, moving etc. Maybe there's a buck or two to be made.

I just had an online exchange with someone who used to work on The Hill. An additional piece of work adding to the timeline is that losing MPs (including PP) have to clean out their offices before the next one moves in. And there might be some shuffling of offices as well.

I would guess that part of the timing is that some of the new parliamentarians have to travel quite a distance, set up places to live and have some time to get the lay of land/rules of the road sorted for both parliament and with their respective parties. Canada is a tad bigger than GB.

According to www.parliament.uk/about/how/oc... "State Opening happens on the first day of a new parliamentary session or shortly after a general election.

The last State Opening took place on Wednesday 17 July 2024 and was the first of the current Parliament." Looks like close to 2 weeks to me.

It will be interesting to see how many votes were cast for all the other candidates on the ballot. That was one looooong ballot.
