I’m seriously considering letting my accent change. I have consciously kept my American accent for years despite being surrounded by the Kiwi accent. It’s easy to switch, but it felt dishonest. Now it’s feeling like it might be safer to be less obviously American. I hate this.

I feel like life should be more than just dragging myself through a checklist of requisite experiences before I’m allowed to admit that I’m tired and want to just be done. I know that I have the capacity for joy, but it’s hard to remember or access it.

On this date a few years back one of the best people this mudball has ever spawned was born. And I both want to rave about how amazing they are, and simultaneously protect them from the world by not giving any data about them to the internet. So here I am, doing both quite poorly.

I did not learn about Juneteenth until I was an adult, which is appalling considering that I was schooled in Texas. I won’t let that ignorance continue to the next generation of my family.

No one told me how much of my adult life would be spent frantically searching to see how militarily vulnerable the homes of my family and friends are.

Who tf are the security personnel letting these arrogant little uncleared unelected toerags into the rooms where $hit happens? They need to step up! How did they get into these sensitive positions? How long have they had them? Are they paid off, or pissed off?

I’m appalled by how much soft-pedaling the media is doing. Even the BBC, which one would assume would be less afraid of reprisal than a US outlet, is using ambiguous language and covering their asses.

*Angry Scribbles is something I made up to help my kids, having a blank page of paper next to their homework. The Angry Scribbles page is to mark up to get the grrr out of their hands before moving back to assigned work. Sometimes it’s a warmup, sometimes a pressure relief valve.

You’re worth more than what you make. If I were to try to make any art right now I don’t think I could get further than the Angry Scribbles* stage.
