The crazy thing is that 群 underwent OC *gur → MC *kun, and 駿 underwent OC *tsur- → MC *tsun (or something) according to BS. Perhaps there was some awareness of these older pronunciations at the time of borrowing?

Very cool! Yeah I was curious about the original Gothic. That pronunciation doesn’t really mesh with modern English phonotactics but as you pointed out , it’s practically Yiddish😄
