For AP European History, US History, and World History, the point-by-point data was captured for the 4 Short-Answer Questions for the first time and will be included in the reports.

...so that AP teachers will be able to receive a point-by-point breakdown of their classroom’s performance on each of the free-response questions.

A new feature of score reports for Art History, Biology, Calculus AB and BC, Environmental Science, Human Geography, Macroeconomics, Microeconomics, all 4 Physics exams, and Psychology: the AP Readers entered point-by-point data into the scoring platform...

With equating and standard settings complete, this next week we’ll format and upload the exam data into the score reports for students and educators.

We also validate AP student performance when placing ahead, both before and after any changes; we’re not aware of any other program that does such validation to confirm, definitively, the validity of the scores.

...rather than more subjectively by small panels of professors making assumptions about whether high school students can do college-level work.

The scoring method continues to require minimum points on both the MC questions and the FR questions, but now the minimum points are identified by analysis of what knowledge and skills students are demonstrating at each point...

AP Human Geography had an Evidence-Based Standard Setting this year, utilizing more data from more college professors than ever before to identify the performance levels most fair and appropriate for receiving college credit and placement.

The most challenging question was Q3, which focused on agricultural patterns. 10% of students earned 6 or 7 of the 7 points possible.

Free-Response Questions

The highest mean score was on Q2, a population pyramid. 32% of students achieved 6 or 7 of the 7 points possible.

“Industrial and Economic Development Patterns and Processes” (Unit 7) was the most challenging unit for students; 5% of students earned all possible points among these questions.

Multiple-Choice Questions

Students scored exceptionally well on questions about “Agriculture and Rural Land Use Patterns and Processes” (Unit 5). Approximately 25% of students answered every question about these topics right.

AP Environmental Science had an Evidence-Based Standard Setting this year, utilizing more data from more college professors than ever before to identify the performance levels most fair and appropriate for receiving college credit and placement.

Given some concerns about students’ ability to enter mathematical operations digitally, the strong performance on the math components of this question suggests that students adapted well to the Bluebook digital testing app.

Point-by-point data indicates scores were strongest for both the setup of mathematical operations and for reporting the correct answer.

The most challenging question on this year’s exam was Q2 (the effects of sea surface conditions and the polar jet stream); 1% of students answered all 10 parts of this question right.

Students performed best on the math portion of FRQ 3, which comprises 6 of the question’s 10 total points.

...students able to earn 5–6 of these points are generally receiving AP 3s; students able to earn 7–8 of these points are generally receiving AP 4s; and students able to earn 9–10 of these points are generally receiving AP 5s.

The varying difficulty levels of the 10 different points on Q1 make it the best question overall for determining which of the five AP scores each exam will receive...
