The hope is that people who are upset that Trump isn't enough of a Nazi simply stop voting in future elections, they're never going to vote for a Democrat. Except for Graham Platner or John Fetterman.

they can come into the tent when they admit they were wrong and change their views

we all joke about Woke Bill Kristol but he is for the most part the perfect example - he has, legitimately, become much more progressive

you canโ€™t bring in people who are mad heโ€™s not delivering on horrible shit

That might be a misconception of why Bush didn't react after Hurricane Katrina or something. As opposed to the real reason, Dick Cheney was fly fishing.

Spiers is desperate to believe that some amount of deliverism or investment could redeem the South when absent massive population shifts in urban centers the only thing that got like six consecutive generations of southern whites to vote for non-white politicians/Democrats was military occupation.

Isn't there some kind of long standing Republican strategy to delay aid and recovery during hurricane season so that New Orleans doesn't grow enough that it turns the state purple?

Again and again, for decades, against seasoned and good opposition, right wing reactionary politics has found its most flourishing environment in half the country, the South and the plain states

16.11.2025 04:41 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 31    ๐Ÿ” 4    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Yes, and I don't think anyone is saying "give up on the South." Folks just need to recognize that the South isn't artificially red. These states are red because, for the most part, a majority of their voters are red. The Mississippi legislature is still overwhelmingly Republican.

but I think while in the midwest, northwest, southwest, northeast, and mid-atlantic the idea of Bush voters turning into Dems is something you can see, it's not happening in South Carolina or Mississippi or Alabama

16.11.2025 04:34 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 94    ๐Ÿ” 5    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 2    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Oregon is a really good example of that actually happening. This used to be a swing state that Al Gore and John Kerry had to fight tooth and nail to win, and ever since 2008 it's just been solid blue. Compare this to how Arkansas shifted over 10 points to the right from 2004 to 2008. (I wonder why?)

i mean the only real way to remove white conservatives from power in the south would be reconstruction 2- not necessarily a bad thing!

Stack this on top of the amount (which is unclear, but I'd guess that it's at least 1%) of Republicans who will simply stop voting once Trump is gone, and that's how we can get a repeat of 2008 without a repeat of 2010.

The fact that videos like this are blowing up on social media is what gives me some hope that the GOP is heading for a national Prop 187 moment with both Hispanic and suburban voters.

16.11.2025 01:55 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 103    ๐Ÿ” 22    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 4    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

This is not true. Republicans win in the South because a majority of voters choose them, not because of "voter suppression." They win ~90% of white voters in much of the South and there are more white voters than Black voters because there are more white people than Black people

16.11.2025 01:13 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 409    ๐Ÿ” 53    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 16    ๐Ÿ“Œ 1

Georgia becoming a swing state gave a lot of people the wrong idea. The last time that Democrats won a statewide election in Alabama was when Republicans appointed a literal known pedophile to run for senate. (Fwiw I do think that Doug Jones should run again, just in case the same thing happens.)

16.11.2025 01:30 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 12    ๐Ÿ” 1    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Republicans are able to win because they make a pretty clear majority of voters. The racial polarization in the Deep South is insane. Gerrymandering and voter suppression are part of the equation but not all of it.

"You can't say both parties are the same!"

Okay then why in a major election my only two choices were "person who blew Bill Clinton" and "person who blew Bill Clinton?"

Huh?

Bill Clinton told Trump that before you can become President you have to blow a former President, that's just how it works, and was relieved when Trump got elected because he avoided a whole uncomfortable conversation

"Had ventricular fibrillation and would have died if he didn't already have an ICD" should not be described as a "fall." The fall is not the issue.

This genuinely *infuriates* me to compare the idea that being banned or suspended from a website equals being disappeared, especially in this political climate.

No, it fucking isn't at all, and doing that kind of comparison is genuinely utterly fucking shameless to even say or suggest.
