I think it was superfluous for what I wanted, and in terms of things I could let go of atm that one wasn't too difficult. The disc thing was definitely worrying, and probably the reason I never got around to powering it on, but I've seen a lot of people say it's their preferred/primary pce console.

So it definitely turned on on the first try, right? Well, yes. And then it wouldn't boot. I forgot to plug in the IDE cable to the hard drive.

The PC98 is back in one piece

All back together on the first try, without any screws left over! Honestly I wasn't confident

Well, at least I have a lifetime supply of these rubber feet now (they're the same ones that are used on the underside of the case)

Yeah, that looks good. The next job is to completely tear it down and see if any of the interior rubber pieces have turned to goo.

I've actually not used it before, but that's what people seem to recommend (even though I couldn't really find any hard evidence for its effectiveness). I had the bottle already though, I just didn't use it the last time I tried this because I kind of wanted to see how quickly it would revert.

Pc98 bezel after cleaning and retrobriting

Pretty happy with this. I could've probably given the drive cover a second session, but I don't think the difference looks that obvious in person. Wiped down everything with 303, so we'll see how long it lasts.
