Happy FAVIA Day! On this day in 1793, 231 years ago, the first air voyage in America launched from the Walnut Street, Philadelphia prison yard. Jean Pierre Blanchard took off at about 10 am and flew about an hour, landing 15 miles away in Deptford, NJ.

This would be fun to see how the hot air balloon community is networking.

Today i successfully defended my comprehensive exams. Grateful for a supportive and collaborative committee.

A word document is open with the words, “how do you eat a whale? One bite at a time” there are a cascade of word documents open. Each with a varying numbers of pages written. Page lengths include 13, 14, 10, 27, and 4.

Writing a dissertation once upon a time seemed impossible to me. This photo is meant to inspire those who are in grad school and questioning if you can do it.
I didn’t think I could, yet, this is HOW I’m doing it.

Introductory post: I’m currently writing my dissertation in mathematics education and a hot air balloon pilot. That means some days, my dress pants end up covered in dirt. I couldn’t be happier with this life.

This morning I flew our #hotairballoon. Feeling pretty lucky to get the chance to fly with a ballooning legend. This afternoon I work on resubmitting my IRB request. One is much more satisfying than the other. This is what balance looks like for me. #chicksfly
