"For 10 years, the private and public sector, as well as volunteer cycling clubs worked together to make an international race possible - one that has put Norway on the map. It has also been a fantastic arena for developing new talent. Several of Norway's leading riders have showcased their abilities and grown through Tour of Norway," says Roy Hegreberg, Managing Director of Tour of Norway. After the government's unexpected funding cut, there is no longer a financial basis to continue work on next year's event. The board of Fjords Cycling, the organization behind Tour of Norway, has therefore decided to halt all planning. Fjords Cycling is 100% owned by volunteer cycling clubs and does not have the capital or financial c apacity to sustain the event on its own. "I respect that the parliamentary majority sets its priorities, but I wish there had been communication in advance. This was a big surprise, and there has been little willingness to engage in dialogue with us," Hegreberg says. Tour of Norway has always been built and operated by and for the sport - owned by local cycling clubs, rooted in the Norwegian sports model, and with everything reinvested into making the race the best it can be. We have worked purposefully to strengthen gender equality in cycling and have delivered Scandinavia's only top-level stage race for both women and men.

Also, even if he *had* said point blank that he’d rather win the Giro than the Tour next year, that’s nothing unusual. Of course he would - he’s never won it and doing so would put him on a very short list of riders who’ve won all three. To me at least it says nothing about the Tour at all.

We are receiving reports that local man has repeatedly said he isn’t giving up and still believes he can win. We advise not believing a word he says and instead imagining him saying whatever it is you want him to say. Of course you know better than he does!

“I’d prefer to win this one very prestigious race that I have not yet won and which would put me on one of the most exclusive lists in the history of the sport if I won it” absolutely definitely is code for “I don’t think I can ever win this other prestigious race ever again”. No doubt about it. 🙃

Honestly, his comments about it feel more significant to me than these kinds of rumors. He’s more than willing to give polite non-answers to questions he wants to avoid, so the fact that he was seriously discussing it probably means something.

Wonder what that would mean for the team’s media day scheduling. You’d expect that kind of announcement pretty soon after the route is revealed, no?

I don’t know about the route reveal, but if he’s going then I would expect the Giro to want to be the ones to announce it.

That’s interesting. Still taking it all with a grain of salt, but the rumors feel a bit more believable this time than they did last year.

I think TNT uses it for subtitles in their short-form content (transcribing a reference to “saddle height” as “satellite” comes to mind 🫠)

Sure, those things don’t usually “matter” in the context of whatever the article is about, but it doesn’t exactly inspire confidence 😭

They also get basic facts wrong fairly often - things that are incredibly easy to check, like result placements or whether or not someone has raced a particular race before 🙃

Local man would prefer to win a race he’s never won rather than one he’s won twice, if given the choice. Clearly that must mean he’s giving up and doesn’t believe he can ever win anything ever again. More at 11.
