Private school tuition for the wealthy or healthcare for the most vulnerable North Carolinians? How would you spend $190 million? NC Republicans think itβs more important to overfund a slush fund for vouchers than make sure people can see a doctor. Itβs all about priorities. π£

"Finger-pointing, childish blame-shifting, and refusing to accomplish the fundamental task of passing a budget are what have characterized this yearβs legislative session. Voters deserve better."
I donβt often agree with the Carolina Journal, but today I do.

Yet another example of how the lack of a state budget is affecting real people in NC. Child care centers are closing faster than new ones are opening, putting a strain on families and hurting the small business community.

Looks like the NCGA Republicans have time to go to Washington DC to kiss up to Trump but no time to pass a budget or fund Medicaid to actually help North Carolinians. π€¬

Democrats swept in South Wake County, NC!!
π Our Cary Town Council is now ALL Democratic WOMEN
π We flipped the Holly Springs Town Council and the Mayor
π We held an all-Democratic Apex Town Council
This is how we do it @wakedems.bsky.social and @ncdemocrats.bsky.social! On to 2026!! πͺ π
Itβs Election Day in Wake County!
If you live in any municipality (except Raleigh), you have an election today.
Make your voice heard in town council and mayoral races. Polls are open until 7:30 pm
You can look up your polling place and sample ballot here: vt.ncsbe.gov/RegLkup/.
You probably wonβt hear about or know the names of the state legislators that are doing hard and important work at the state level, but there are thousands who work for little pay and little notoriety every day at the front lines of the battle for democracy. Shout out and much love to all of them. π«‘
28.10.2025 00:36 β π 9 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Itβs a complete failure and itβs inexcusable.
23.10.2025 12:25 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0The incompetence of Republican leaders to get anything done for NC is on full display. They have a supermajority in the Senate & a majority in the House. They could pass anything they want to (as we saw with redistricting) but they canβt agree on anything that will actually make your lives better.
23.10.2025 12:25 β π 2 π 3 π¬ 1 π 0And the cherry on top of a horrible week at the NCGAβ¦ the announcement that the legislature is most likely done meeting for the year without passing a state budget or saving our Medicaid program.
23.10.2025 12:25 β π 5 π 4 π¬ 1 π 0Your voice may be ignored by Republicans in the halls of the NCGA but we heard you loud & clear. These maps are a pure power grab that steals the vote from North Carolinians. They are cheaters, pure & simple.
22.10.2025 00:18 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Amazing turnout at the @ncdemocrats.bsky.social Redistricting Rally today! Thank you to everyone who came out to stop the steal of NC through gerrymandering. Over 11,000 of you have submitted comments in opposition of the redistricting & so many came to give public comment at the legislature.

π¨ Monday night redistricting update!
Thereβs still time to submit your comments in opposition to this blatant power grab aka redistricting bill. Huge shoutout to everyone who came to the Senate hearing today- the Republicans certainly got an earful!! It was amazing! π₯
If you arenβt watching the Senate elections hearing, tune in. Iβm so proud of all of these people who are making public comments on the illegal gerrymander. π₯Ή They are giving the Republicans absolute hell. πππ
This is the way. π₯

π¨ Instead, we are voting on new Congressional maps which will give Republicans another safe district because they are too afraid to face voters in a fair election next year.
So what can you do to make your voice heard in opposition to this blatant power grab?
Good news! π
We are returning to legislative session this week.
Bad news! π
We arenβt there to pass a state budget, to invest in health care by saving Medicaid, or to do literally anything that helps North Carolinians.

Do you trust politicians? Thatβs the topic of the podcast I recorded with Duke student Jill Sergison called TrustFund, where she explores how trust manifests across different aspects of society: where it thrives, where it breaks down, & what we can do to build it.

This week, I voted no on the House budget proposal. This two year budget diverts $1.36 BILLION away from our public schools and gives it to private schools. I can not vote for a budget that doesnβt invest in ALL children, not just the ones that we choose to be worthy. (Full speech on my You Tube!)

βWe donβt want to take away from one kid to give to another.β - Rep. Dean Arp (R), as he recommends voting down an amendment to the budget which would transfer funds from the private school voucher fund to give to kids in rural counties to travel on field trips to Raleigh.

π§ Better schools.
π° Better pay.
π Better future. HB420 couldβve changed everything. But the GOP chose politics over public education, again.
It is harmful because it will create barriers for minors accessing health care, especially for those who do not have a trusted adult to talk to. This legislation will not make young people safer- rather it puts the government between a doctor and patient & puts our most vulnerable children at risk.
