Stop valuing the needs of that corporate landlord over actual people. Say the landlord does get behind on repairs or have to pay employees - I guarantee that’s easier for them than the tenant to absorb. LL losses don’t put them out on the street. Tenant losses do.

I’m now tutoring a Canadian law student (though US based, as a common law country we share plenty of foundational principles and will work on legal writing, argumentation, application). Her criminal law syllabus is a spectacular lesson in philosophical differences between our countries!

I’m sorry you had to leave Iowa City! When I was there (pre-2016) the U had a clinic that was an amazing asset to my partner - helped with the physical, mental/emotional, and even legal complications in transition. A one stop support shop. It felt hopeful to see that in Iowa. May you find more hope.

Agreed! I do feel, though, for the JAG lawyers who absolutely did not sign up for this and are almost being forced to violate their duty of competence without an ability to withdraw. Not sure how licensing and discipline works for them.

One of the biggest factors for me in choosing a law school, and what I tell my LSAT students, is to look at how good the faculty is at teaching. It doesn’t matter how published or highly ranked if you don’t get the benefit. Visit, ask around, see if it’s a place you’ll be able to actually learn.
