What is Sakusa hiding from him? Is it something important?

“Ya sure?” Atsumu asks. Sakusa nods and Atsumu isn’t really sure what else to do about it. “Okay, then. I’m fine, by the way. I promise.”

Sakusa nods and puts his focus into warming up for practice. “Good to know.”

Sakusa’s answer puts

hands him a ball and they both head over to the wall to warm up some. “What were ya gonna say ta me ‘fore Bokkun burst in like that?”

Sakusa shakes his head. “Don’t worry about it. I was just going to ask how you were again.” Atsumu nods, but he feels like that’s not the truth.

Akaashi Keiji. Akaashi gives Atsumu an apologetic look. “Look how tough he looks in his cast! Isn’t he the cutest?!”

“Yes, yes, very adorable.” Akaashi ruffles Akihiko’s hair with a smile. “Let’s not try to not irreversibly damage his hearing but yelling in his ears though.” Bokuto turns red as

advice. “Noted.” They fall into silence as they start stretching. “Miya-,” Sakusa starts to say, but at the same time, the doors to the gym burst open and Bokuto comes rushing in with somebody.

“Look Keiji! He’s hereeeeeee!” Bokuto crouches down to lift Akihiko up and turns to show him off to

smiles at Aki who smiles right back. “See? We’re two peas in a pod.” Sakusa smiles at that and nods in agreement. “Anyways, if yer wantin’ ta go out, ya should hit up Inunaki or Hinata. They know some spots, ‘m pretty sure.”

Sakusa nods again, but Atsumu can tell he’s not going to take Atsumu’s

“Uh, I mean, I’ve just been takin’ care of Akihiko and comin’ ta practice. Not much else ta report on.”

Sakusa nods, eyes narrowing slightly. “Sounds like you need a night off.”

Atsumu pulls a face. “What? No. I love bein’ home with Aki. We have a blast together. Ain’t that right, baby?” Atsumu

hands, looking Atsumu over. Atsumu feels a little naked under how intense Sakusa’s gaze turns. “What’s going on with you?”

Atsumu can’t help but feel flustered by the question. He’s fine! He just said so, and it’s true! What else is there that Sakusa wants to know?

He leans forward into a stretch, flicking Aki’s foot as he does. Aki turns to him with a frown and Atsumu holds back a laugh as he flicks Aki’s other foot. “He’s been sleepin’ well and everythin’ but-.”

“I already asked about Akihiko, Miya. I’m asking how /you’re/ doing.” Sakusa leans back on his

hand over the back of Aki’s head a few times. “He does look great. And what about you?” Sakusa turns his gaze to Atsumu. Atsumu suddenly feels like he’s about to burst into flames with how warm his cheeks get. “How are you holding up?”

“’m fine, thanks,” Atsumu mumbles.

Atsumu sits down to stretch and Sakusa joins him, sitting on the floor. Sakusa gives Aki a brief hug before letting him down to play by himself. He’s still got the shoelace and he starts shaking it around in the air like he had been earlier. “As ya can see, he’s feelin’ great.”

Sakusa almost always ends up following Atsumu home for lunch with Osamu after practice. Atsumu could probably count on one hand the number of times that Sakusa hasn’t seen Atsumu home since the season started three months ago.

“His arm’s fine, I think. He’s not fussin’ with the cast anymore.”

Sakusa is so amazing with Akihiko. Not that Aki has ever been particularly shy or anything like that. No, he’s always been okay around strangers, but he’s never taken a shine to them the way he has with Sakusa. Though, he supposes that he sees Sakusa more days than not.

Aki’s look of distrust morphs into the widest smile Atsumu’s seen on him today at the sight of Sakusa’s entire face. “Hey there Akihiko. How’s your arm doing? Hm?” Aki leans towards Sakusa and Sakusa picks him up, leading the way into the gym. Atsumu follows behind them silently.

He should be nothing but grateful to the spiker! But instead of that Atsumu just feels like he should be embarrassed every time he’s bumped into Sakusa outside of volleyball.

“Oh, hi Miya.” Sakusa pulls his mask down to smile at Akihiko.

Ever since the day Aki had gotten hurt, he’s felt so, just, awkward around Sakusa. He doesn’t know why. He had been a good friend and helped Atsumu out the entire day pretty much. If it wasn’t for him, Atsumu knows he would’ve lost his cool way before he did.

If it was up to them, Atsumu’s sure they’d spend the entire three hour practice playing with Aki in the locker room.

Sakusa is just stepping into the gym as Atsumu approaches the door. Atsumu hesitates for a moment.
