Polite reminder it’s a cash only bar, and note that all this sun has left organic cider stocks low - feel free to BYOC.

Phenomenal evening of bowling. Jack taken into the gutter on two occasions making for an intriguing battle of wits. The newly cut green offering up peculiar behaviour. And the usually steady bowling from the Lancashire contingent suddenly awry owing to an apparently unwanted cider. Well bowled 🙏

A rare foursome. A number of external matters seemed to have an influence on individual performances, not least the sweltering nature of the day.

And though the green could do with a trim, focus was on playing over maintenance, for a change.

The hybrid work attire chap prevailed, despite surges from the other two contenders.

VENUE CHANGE

We will now run from 2pm at the Blue Pig, Midgehole, Hebden Bridge (to 7pm latest).

Still cash only, but dry and with a wonderful sound system.

In between downpours there will be boules on the riverside car park.

Since the bowling looks to be constrained, we’ll be scaling back the gathering to suit the conditions.

We will convene from 2pm and see how we go.

Under the wildlife canopy of soaring buzzards and a(nother) mayfly hatch, a certain northerner channeled the heady spirits of a non-league Wembley visit to the hallowed turf of Hebden Bridge bowling club. A gripping and enjoyable game.

A brief North v South pairs challenge, under the watchful eye of Millwall-Del, saw the Yorkshire contingent comfortably prevail, 15-2. What a lovely spot 👏🏼

With the mayfly hatch as a backdrop, the green performed less speedily than expected, though the Oldham born bowler was still a frequent visitor to the gutter.

The hour-long match saw only narrow 1-point victories, with John Le Measurier getting regular use.

The unusually mild start to April made for a wonderful challenge on a newly prepared green: some parts sluggish, some plain weird.
