Nauru sells first passports to help fund relocations as sea levels rise
Australia's Pacific neighbour Nauru has sold its first passports as part of a program raising funds for the relocation of residents affected by rising sea levels.
The poor people of Nauru had 90 per cent of their once fertile Pacific paradise turned into a barren wasteland in order to fertilise Australian farms. Now the little inhabitable land left is being inundated by sea level rise. Surely a warning to the world

According to the Productivity Commission, writers giving away our property to big corporations will increase productivity. But so would giving away any other input - land, labour etc. Why should writers, artists and musicians alone be denied protection by the state?

I wonder if the Productivity Commission has any idea how personally depressing it is for writers not just to have our work stolen by what are the biggest corporations in world history, but that a major institutional body of our nation has their back not ours

Excellent article in this months Australian Book Review by Clinton Fernandes highlighting strong evidence Japan’s surrender decision was made as soon as USSR declared war, BEFORE destruction of Nagasaki, and how it’s suited US and Japan to always maintain the surrender was because of the bomb

New faces on Tasmanian cross bench are more progressive but also all white men aged over 65. Join 2 existing white fellas over 55 with just one independent a woman. If this was outcome with Greens or ALP there’d be scrutiny. For those who see indies as answer to democracy woes, worth thinking about

Is information gathered by the US from the spy base at Pine Gap being shared with Israel? Given this base is supposedly a joint defence facility on Australian soil, don’t we have a right to know?

Productivity has hardly shifted in the past 20 years. Proof what a con the so called IT revolution has been. Done nothing for efficiency but a lot for concentrating wealth. More like old fashioned feudalism than real human progress

Global firms ‘profiting from genocide’ in Gaza, says UN rapporteur
Report by Francesca Albanese singles out companies such as Palantir and calls for prosecutions
As one of eight states ensuring the IDF can continue to fly its F-35s, being used for the first time ever, according to the truthful Albanese, in its so called ‘beast mode’, the other Albanese can longer deny Australia is an active partner in genocide.

Historically the biggest threat to respect for international law come not from criminals like Trump who are open in their contempt but decent leaders like Starmer, Carney and Albanese who claim to be defenders of a rules based order but fail to show up when it counts

Important to keep the slaughter in Gaza in context . Many more people have been killed than died during the Blitz despite Gaza having a small fraction of Britain’s population. Yet the western world remembers what happened in London over 80 years ago better than what happened in Palestine yesterday.

Is Trump Our Cyrus? The Old Testament Case for Yes and No - Christianity Today
Christians’ eagerness to understand God’s will in real time can cause them to overlook fundamental biblical and divine principles.
For the extreme Christian and Jewish right, Trump is Cyrus, one time Supreme leader of Iran. Who knows, maybe the man himself believes so too and all this madness is just him reclaiming his rightful throne

IDF ordered to stop Gaza-bound aid ship carrying Greta Thunberg
Israeli defence minister tells military to ‘take all necessary measures’ to block humanitarian flotilla
Why is breaking the blockade being left to Greta and her friends? Gaza is not Israeli territory. It’s not only up to Israel or the US to decide whether aid enters. European and Arab countries should send in ships and planes today. Don’t ask. Do.

Anthony Albanese acknowledges home insurance now a ‘real challenge’ as government announces disaster assistance for 19 local council areas
A leader who expresses concern about extreme weather events while approving new fossil fuel projects has as much ethical credibility as one who laments the bombing of civilians in Gaza while selling critical aircraft parts to the bombers

Under the cover of the on-again/off-again Coalition drama, Labor is gearing up to approve an absolutely catastrophic gas project.
Woodside’s North West Shelf is an untapped climate bomb.
This approval would mean supercharged floods, fires and species extinctions.

Pete Hegseth Leads Christian Prayer Service in the Pentagon
The main difference between American evangelicals today and every generation since the Reformation is they never repent. Sin is something others do, except sometimes in bed. Luther, Calvin, Wesley, Edwards etc must be turning in their resurrected graves
