Have you ever worried you were pregnant when you didn't want to be? Imagine how much more often that would happen if condoms and cycle tracking were your only options. Imagine how many days of your life would be spent worrying.

SCOTUS Says Human Rights Should Be Left to the Same β€˜Democratic Process’ it Undermined Read more here.

The callous opinions in Skrmetti last week and Dobbs three years ago today underscore that the Supreme Court keeps punting human rights to a democratic process that the Roberts court broke.

Wrote about it for @democracydocket.com:

Even assuming, for the sake of the argument, that Smith lacks personhood, that doesn't mean there aren't legal interests on her end. Trusts & Estates law wouldn't exist if that were true. We could simply ignore every last will and testament. We could discard remains regardless of a person's wishes.

I can’t recommend this enough.

UNBREAKING, a new project from @lizneeley.bsky.social & co, documents & explains our many concurrent institutional collapses.

It’s beautifully executed work, full of intellectual & moral clarity. 3 pages are live, more will come. It’s SO GOOD, & I learned so much.

Today I learned that the author of this 1977 op-ed was the most important college mentor for the current head of the DOJ’s Civil Rights Division.

πŸ—£οΈ Personhood is NOT β€œa strategy to ban abortion.” It is a strategy to *redefine the relationship between pregnancy-capable bodies and the state*

And it is WORKING because Repro lawyers and advocates are so myopically focused on abortion!

Imagine being forced to stay pregnant and give birth to a baby who suffers for the short period of time they survive after birth, all to satisfy the abstract moral preferences of self-righteous strangers.

This is what is most horrifying about the anti-abortion movement's insistence that people carry fetuses with lethal anomalies to term and give birth

Antiabortion Heartbeat Bills Cause Immense Suffering The rise in infant mortality in Texas shows that in states with strict abortion bans, forcing people to carry nonviable pregnancies to term codifies cruelty and unnecessary pain

Thanks, Greer. We wrote about this in our op-ed that was published last year. Sad that we have to keep reminding people about the traumatic experiences of those affected. www.scientificamerican.com/article/anti...

The legislature has apparently chosen to blame doctors, asserting that the law is clear, but failing to explain how, or how doctors are supposed to know when they're allowed to intervene to help pregnant people despite having been asked many times.

Text: Most states with abortion bans are years behind in reviewing maternal deaths. ProPublica surveyed 18 states with the most restrictive abortion laws. Maternal mortality review committees in states that have recently imposed strict bans on abortion have done little to determine whether the laws are contributing to maternal deaths, a ProPublica investigation shows.

Asleep at the Wheel in the Headlight Brightness Wars The crusade against bright headlights has picked up speed in recent years, in large part due to a couple of Reddit nerds. Could they know what’s best for the auto industry better than the auto industr...

In one of the strangest chapters of my life, I spent several months in the trenches of Big Headlight, looking to understand just how and why headlights became brighter than the sun. Answers, graphs, penis sketchesβ€”it's all here, on the brand new Ringer site:
