This winter cactus (Schlumbergera truncata)spent the summer out in our garden but just a week after returning to its place on the bathroom windowsill the first flower buds appeared. It appears that it couldn't wait for Winter or Thanksgiving!

I spotted another unplanned plant combo in a shady corner of the garden. Even in the season of russet leaves, greens can still hold sway. The lavender-blue michaelmas daisy (aster) punctuates its surroundings but shares the limelight with the variegated holly and the ivy Paddy's Pride behind it.

I adore this Acer showing its Autumn crimson. It brackets the seasons starting with fresh crimson leaves ๐Ÿ in the spring and ending with this glorious colouring during Autumn. #autumncolors๐Ÿ #autumnleaves๐Ÿ‚

This comes from Ronald Blythe's A Writers Day Book. Through reading Ian Collins' masterly biography Blythe Spirit I have recently learned that RB was so much more than just the author of Akenfield. #booklover #booknerd #bookworm #readingislife

Greetings on this breezy Saturday.
We're so lucky to have Redbournbury water mill just 5 minutes away. Every Saturday morning the bakery opens to sell great breads made from locally grown grain, milled on site. Flour has been milled here for around a 1000 yrs so they know what they're doing!

So sad to hear of the passing today of Dame Jane Goodall the trailblazing anthropologist, zoologist and primatologist. The chimpanzees have lost a dear friend and the world has lost a shining light.

As a gardener I was late to the table as far as grasses are concerned but now I wouldn't be without them. Pampas was slow to get going this year but in the last few weeks it's grown taller than ever. As for the zebra grass there is no sign yet of flowers and the seed heads so loved by small birds.
