Villanova suffers first Big East loss to Creighton, snaps five-game win streak

The Wildcats were outscored in the second half and struggled from deep as Creighton handed Villanova a 76-72 loss at home on Wednesday night.

Villanova is losing key starters from its FCS semifinal team. Could the transfer portal be an option to retool?

Several starters are graduating or moving on to other schools, though running back Ja'Briel Mace will return. But the program has questions at quarterback and other key spots ahead of the 2026 season.

Malachi Palmer followed his coach to Villanova. Now, he’s ready to show what he’s capable of. The sophomore guard did not hesitate to follow head coach Kevin Willard from Maryland to the Main Line. While he saw limited minutes last season, Palmer has been “working all year” to improve.

Malachi Palmer grew up with a dream to play basketball at Villanova.

Born in Harrisburg, Palmer watched Jalen Brunson and Josh Hart, among other Wildcats, win two championships in the span of three years.

Villanova’s Pat McQuaide and Luke Colella have formed instant chemistry on a tight-knit team McQuaide, a transfer from Nicholls State, and Colella, a transfer from Princeton, have led the charge for the 5-2 Wildcats' offense. Colella has hauled in 35% of McQuaide's total completions.

After Luke Colella officially transferred to Villanova this offseason, someone stopped by his hometown outside of Pittsburgh for a visit.
