Portage Park Neighbors Can Weigh In On Proposed Bike Lanes At March 5 Meeting The Chicago Department of Transportation announced plans this month for the Portage Park Neighborhood Bike Network, which includes three new bike lanes and five neighborhood greenways.

Chicago Traffic Deaths Reach A 9-Year Low, But Funding Cuts Could Threaten Progress The city recorded 100 traffic deaths last year, the lowest total since 2016. But city bond funding for the Complete Streets and Vision Zero programs are set to decrease 85 percent by 2029.

“If we don’t have the [bond] money for the Complete Streets projects in the future, we’re just going to kind of resurface the road, call it a day and revisit it down the line,” Perez said. “It’s a one-time opportunity to redo the street and make it safe for the coming generation.”
