Update on Ellen Steinke's preview of Friday's CMAP meeting on the future of DuSable Lake Shore Drive. 20 people delivered public comments, and 100s of written comments were submitted. Presumably most of them called for making DLSD more people-friendly.

Thank you! Can't wait for the new bike lane and bus islands to be installed! Lot of foot traffic and a school in that area and we need drivers to slow down and keep folks safe.

Separated Bike Lanes Means Safer Streets, Study Says β Streetsblog USA
Cities that build protected lanes for cyclists end up with safer roads for people on bikesΒ and people in cars and on foot, a new studyΒ of 12 large metropolises revealed Wednesday.
βAfter analyzing crash data over a 13-year period in areas with separated bike lanes on city streets, researchers estimated that having a protected bike facility in a city would result in 44% fewer deaths and 50% fewer serous injuries than an average city.β
Safer for ALL.

Public transit has a chance to reinvent how people connect and get around
Yet many, near and far, are watching to see which actions will move a new transit authority in the most effective direction.
"If it succeeds, the overhaul will guarantee for at least a generation an asset that is a crucial economic link, delivering workers to their jobs and bringing residents and visitors to restaurants, entertainment and leisure activities."

Nation Wising Up, Seeking Alternatives to Cars | High Speed Rail Alliance
Few places in the United States are readily amenable to car-free living, but we need to change that, starting now.
"This means that two-thirds of American households in urban and suburban areas are not emotionally attached to their cars. If they own cars, itβs because of a built environment and paltry transit options that force car ownership on them."
