I like the #Stunday theme as it's wide open. I think this Luna moth is stunning. As I photographed fungi one morning I noticed it just sitting there. It was a cold morning late in the year. 105mm macro lens. #photography #wildlife #wildlifephotography #EastCoastKin #insects #moths #macrophotography

A rather anticlimactic 22 of 16 in SW Hants last night, with NFY Brick the highlight.
Singles of Rush Veneer, Rusty-dot Pearl & White-point the only hints at migration.

A single Palpita vitrealis amongst a paltry 15/3 in the Upton garden trap this morning was the sole migrant, alongside a handful of LBAMs & Black Rustic. Fingers crossed for the Canary airflow later this week! #TeamMoth @dorsetmoths.bsky.social

A Giant House spider, Eratigena duellica, can achieve a leg span of 10 cm. (4 inches). This little one measures, as seen by the edge of a frame at bottom left, with a 2mm. border marked, about 3 cm, stretched out.
She's a dull brown, with black markings on the body; the legs are just plain brown. In this photo, two of her six spinnerets, the silk-producing glands, are visible; two small projections angled outwards from the rear of her abdomen. All true spiders produce silk, even the wandering hunters, like this one. She makes a web hidden away, not to catch prey, but to serve as a dining room, and later, a place to guard her eggs.

Just a baby. Really. A Giant House spider, not quite a giant yet. Out hunting on a wall; maybe she'll find a moth. Arachtober 2025, Day 29. Two days left! www.flickr.com/photos/wande... #VancouverIsland #Arachtober2025 #Arachnids #Spiders #Arañas #Invertebrates #Wildlife #NaturePhotography

Closeup photograph of an orange sulphur butterfly (Colias eurytheme seems likely) on the ground on a sunny day amid brown leaves and grasses with a blade of green grass extending along the bottom of the frame. The butterfly has its wings closed and is facing right in profile. Orange sulphur butterflies have yellow-orange wing backs with a thick black edge with orange-yellow markings. The upper back wing has a black spot in the upper middle portion of the wing and an orange spot in the center of the lower back wing. The wing fronts are plainer with black spots opposite the black edge of the back wing and white spots with a black outline opposite each black and orange spot on the black wing. The butterfly's abdomen and lower thorax are covered in fine yellow-green hairs that transition to fine burnt orange hairs on the upper thorax and head. They have two lime green compound eyes with dark spots, six orange segmented legs, and two long burnt orange antennae that end in brown tips.

Orange sulphur foolin' like a fallen fall leaf.

Surprising to see one after 1st frost but it was a banner yr for orange sulphurs hereabouts. Seems a bit poetic that this is likely my last insect macro of the yr.

Abalone in the touch tank at Newport Aquarium (Kentucky, not the one in Newport Oregon). It stands semi-erect, which is hard when your foot is your stomach and also you're hanging from the side of the tank by the power of mucus. Its mantle is black, with a ruffled white margin delineated between it and the foot. It's anterior margin is raised as if prepared to pounce. The mantle is fringed with dark tentacles around the margin of the shell. It's big, perhaps 20cm long.

We have a brown bin for garden waste. Regularly I have to check the lid for accidentally binned insects and spiders and relocate them. This is a candy striped spider, Enoplognatha ovata or latimana, the two are very similar, with an egg sac. #Arachtober

I'm unsure of the species, but this beautiful little mushroom is definitely a Leptonia / Enteloma. The navy blue stems are so nice!
