I had such a busy, but incredible weekend!! Friday, I participated in the Love Hope Art’s annual fundraiser competition where we have 40 minutes to complete a piece that will be auctioned off. Then on Saturday I taught a Gouache Workshop. Everyone’s pieces turned out amazing! 💖

Next column states Microsoft’s San Francisco data center is estimated to have used 700,000 liters of clean water to train Open AI’s GPT-3 model. The training had an additional off-site water footprint of 2.8 million liters due to electricity usage. Top column says GPT-3 has a combined water footprint of 3.5 million liters in the U.S., which would have risen to 4.9 million liters if trained in the Asia-Pacific. Underneath states, The new launched GPT-4 is likely to have a significantly larger water footprint. The next column states Warehouse-scale data Centers where most AI models are trained and deployed, collectively account for 2% of the global electricity usage. Next column says Google’s self-owned data centers in the US consumed 16 billion liters of fresh water- 90% of it potable-for on-site cooling in 2021. Last column says Microsoft’s giant data centre complex in North Holland consumed 84 million liters of water in 2021, at a time of severe water shortages.

While I recognize and appreciate the uses AI has for the disability and medical communities, I still think it is important to consider alternatives when generating AI “art”. There are environmental and ethical implications when generating images. I see a lot of AI being used on here.
