Trying to pick up the threads of a novel put aside so many times for so many reasons. What is it about? Trying to convince myself all the new questions are a good thing. My brain is a lot less elastic as I get older.

On good reviews / bad reviews. And resilience. When Me and Mickie James came out it had a couple of really horrendous reviews.

Today’s blog is a trip to Xanadu. There’s Kubla Khan. Check. There’s Olivia Newton John. Check. So let’s dance, let’s party.

My mum turned 93 today. She has just drilled holes in the wall round her pond to fix handles so she can pull herself up after sitting on the step by the water. Offers of help have been refused.

Sea swimming is tough. Waves are hard work. I'm doing physio for my wrist twice a week too. Slow progress, but progress none the less.

Very pleased to see my book, Saltburn, in this stack of books. And to take some pleasure in that it’s the only one with a seal sitting under an umbrella on the spine.

Been swimming in the local lake the last three days running. It's cold at the beginning, but is SO worth it. I think I'm getting some strength back in my wrist. And it just puts me in such a good mood. Tomorrow storms are forecast :-(

Fellow authors, I love you, and I know it feels like we don’t have a choice, but B&N and Am*zon both scheduled sales this week to preempt Independent Bookstore Day, a hugely vital source of income for indie bookstores. Please don’t promote their sales; please promote your local indie this week.

Went to a diagnostic centre with a friend who has hepatitis c yesterday here in France, hoping to get advice on specialists/access to treatment. We were unceremoniously told that as he hadn't tested there he must go back to his GP, who is elderly and no specialist at all. Make treatment easy!?
