I'm not saying they are the most important things on the list, but this report completely misses transport independence and the design of streets.
Amazing.
That's (still) ridiculous. How can this area of investigation *not* consider transport though the lenses of children's independence, play near where they live, cost of living for families etc.
08.03.2026 11:43 β π 6 π 1 π¬ 0 π 0What happened to Healthy Streets? Wasn't this a core component of one of the Mayor's Strategies? How children use streets and move between places whether to school, play or socialise is still made unnecessary too difficult and treacherous in too many places.

www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...
Another tragic news article and another disgraceful description from the BBC implying a self driving vehicle? Or was there a driver responsible?
"Urbanism is ableist!" "Reducing car dependency is ableist!" "Not everyone can ride a bike!" etc. have become very effective thought-terminating clichΓ©s, resulting in people ignoring, dismissing or even badging ableist disabled people simply for advocating for accessibility for non-drivers.

It impairs hazard detection and reaction time, with effects lasting well beyond the interaction. This is road danger and it can (and does) have fatal consequences. Academic research strongly backs it (see pic). Enforcement matters.

In Japan there are 36 words for walking!
Like Japanese cities, the language is highly pedestrian friendly
During COVID, cities successfully reallocated street space from cars to people. We proved it works.
Itβs frustrating how quickly those changes vanished, restoring the oppressive status quo where cars dominate and people are pushed back to the margins.
