OpenAI will not disclose GPT-5โ€™s energy use. It could be higher than past models Experts working to benchmark resource use of AI models say new versionโ€™s enhanced capabilities come at a steep cost

No secret that the reason companies like OpenAI intentionally hide their energy and environment metrics is because they look very, very, very, very bad and the company is more valuable if the damage they do is kept secret

Weird how establishment Dems and liberals being overwhelmingly silent on the Trump admin hiring the guy who wrote this paved the way for them to openly declare war on women next...

What did you expect?

ICE looted their restaurant and tried to break into the safe. News chopper footage caught them backing their cars up to the door and carrying out cases of food.

Without an endorsement of those people or groups specifically but they also all caught terrorism charges and Iโ€™d struggle to say they are anywhere even close to one another in terms of what PA actually did.

10.08.2025 15:22 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 1    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Oh agreed, my anger at them actually comes from a sense of frustration in that we actively need strong and credible protest groups and they let their members down here. In that thread I went out of my way to give a bunch of examples of what serious people in direct action groups look and sound like

10.08.2025 15:22 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 2    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

I feel like they got very caught up with the kneecap situation Which was happening in the background at the time and wanted some kind of consistency and now the entire thing is just such a farce. Credibility is completely pissed away for absolutely no good reason.

10.08.2025 15:16 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 0    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

But yeah, again, all of this is in a very distant second place and another topic entirely to be fair. You cannot continue to arrest people who are doing nothing more than holding a sign as a supporter of terrorism with a straight face.

10.08.2025 15:16 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 1    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

As I outlined in this thread at the time, this got them no closer to any meaningful objective and they ended up making their members a danger to anyone else out there who would continue to associate with them (irrespective of if the law was abused here which I think it was clearly).

I think maybe one thing Jill & I agree on here is that anyone with even a passing interest in the modern UK natsec space could have told you that the outcome was a very real possibility long before it happened. I think it was terrible leadership and they are not a serious group to have ignored that.

10.08.2025 15:13 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 0    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

I donโ€™t see the argument of conflating security with terrorism. Was it a dumb initial action? Yes? Did it lead to any stated outcomes? No. Absolutely none of that however justifies the use of the terrorism label and arresting grandmothers with signs now is one of the dumbest moves of all time

Trump's bottomlessly idiotic sabotage of the energy transition in the US could not be more succinctly summarized:

A third of CEOs plan to axe jobs over the next yearโ€”and a majority now say theyโ€™ll pass on new tariff costs to their customers โ€œFor the first time since 2020, CEOs planning to shrink their workforce exceeded the share looking to expand,โ€ the Conference Board noted.

200 days into Trump's term, where are we?

In the race between Trump's authoritarianism and efforts to resist it, authoritarianism is ahead. And while there are hopeful signs from the public, the chance of effective resistance is, for now, being fatally undermined by the capitulation of the elites.

Proscribing Palestine Action canโ€™t hold.

Theyโ€™re not a terrorist organisation, and nobody thinks they are.

A vast (and increasing) swathe of the population support their cause.

Policing requires consent and that requires a majority acceptance of the law, but most people think this law is an ass.

Itโ€™s hard to overstate what an own goal this entire PA fiasco has been. They are absolutely lighting credibility on fire with huge numbers of people who never would have questioned the credibility of the police otherwise along with many others. And for what? Nobody is safer, the opposite actually
