10.08.2025 13:19 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I'm just getting over Covid and re-watched 4 seasons, which means I've now seen every episode more than twice. (It also means when I have a wonky seam I can hear Esme's voice in my head. Is that good? Bad?)
10.08.2025 13:13 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0That IS a beautiful city centre. I was thinking yesterday about how my plans when I was a teenager were never "travel the world" or "go live overseas" it was always just "GET ME OUT OF CALIFORNIA". (Proud to say that I left 2 days after graduating high school in 1990 and have never been back.)
10.08.2025 12:53 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I really loved that part too. It made me question how I see my reader, and how often I make choices based on competition vs. partnership.
10.08.2025 12:48 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Myna, YAY! I have literally never met anyone who felt the same! Let's build a treehouse and have a club!
10.08.2025 12:47 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I really like this idea, thank you. It makes me think of an excellent article I read years ago that talked about how "innate talent" doesn't exist, it's just really really really hard work on the part of the creative person.
10.08.2025 12:47 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Aw man A PRETTY REGULAR PUB, I am now dying of envy. (But also planning my next fish and trips odyssey... )
10.08.2025 12:46 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I love it!
10.08.2025 12:45 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Matt, thanks so much! This piece came from an excellent workshop with @taracampbell.bsky.social.
10.08.2025 12:45 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I wasnβt going to produce a @thereadingline.bsky.social Book Ride this year but then I read AT LAST COUNT by @clairerossdunn.bsky.social & I couldnβt help myself!!
Mark your calendar for Saturday Sept 27 2-4pm π final destination is the Another Story booth at @wordonthestreets.bsky.social
Thank you! It helps that I really love the characters, so getting to hang out with them again is something I'm looking forward to.
09.08.2025 15:16 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Ooo, cool question. I'm looking at a 15k novella and pondering ways to turn it into an 80k novel. It's VERY hard to shut up that voice that's like "this is a waste of time, you can't write a novella".
Anyone who's reading this -- how about you?
You bet!
09.08.2025 12:45 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Cruel! Cruel photo! There's, like, ONE PLACE in Toronto that serves good fish and chips and it's ages on the subway to get there!
09.08.2025 11:02 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I don't like George Saunders (I know, sacrilege) but there's a fantastic quote from Saunders in this great craft essay by @tommydeanwriter.bsky.social about just REVEALING the secret and then finding out where the story goes from there. Definitely worth a read.
09.08.2025 11:01 β π 11 π 2 π¬ 2 π 1Book cover with blue motiff and a sun in the centre of the world
"Bluesky doesn't help you sell books."
I just bought this because of a post by @hutchinsondave.bsky.social a few days ago.
I have a story in this! About a rich CEO who seeks to destroy a river in order to construct his AI data centers. It's erotic eco-horror, so you can expect it to go in weird and visceral directions. I hope you'll all enjoy it, and all the other tales by BIPOC writers in this awesome anthology!

You still have a few more days: get polishing over the weekend!
08.08.2025 09:43 β π 17 π 10 π¬ 1 π 0Aw, that's such a kind thing to say. I wish! People reject my writing almost every day *laughing*
08.08.2025 11:35 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0RIGHT?! It's amazing what a difference a few words can make.
08.08.2025 11:35 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Pam, thank you -- I'm still doing a quiet SQUEEE in my head *laughing*
08.08.2025 11:34 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Sarah, thank you -- that sushi was so good I GENUINELY would be okay with making my goal...

07.08.2025 17:34 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0This is the second sign Iβve received in less than 24hours that I should start collaging again. Aaah, fine. Do you hear perfectionism? You sit here and just watch, no talking!
07.08.2025 17:32 β π 1 π 1 π¬ 1 π 0My terrible photoblog made me a better writer, want to know how? Read the essay here, which begins, "When I first moved to Canada, long before Instagram existed, I started a photoblog..."
