reminds me of mates out in Western Queensland 50 years ago. Tens of thousands of acres and troughs everywhere.
"Checking the waters" was a daily chore particularly in summer. Paddocks with a bore drain not quite as often but bore drains in the past now.

that is incredible. Well worth that investment. We seem to have worse fires every year these days so a good firefighting pump is a good investment; as well as being a day to day workhorse.
