I think it's a bit subtler than that. Like, Biden got shit done without drama, but competence is boring. Same with Mamdani now vs. the scary Muslim socialist who was going to ruin NYC if he got elected. Stories about him just doing his job aren't as easy to write.

On top of all the reporting that this war of aggression was planned well in advance, it seems that the reporting also indicates that the US political leadership are quite literally too stupid to understand basic diplomacy. I mean literally not smart enough.

And even if it is upheld 7-2 (with Thomas and Alito willing to co-sign ANYTHING if it's evil enough), taking it up at all is part of the point. Yeah, they protected the blatantly obvious constitutional order THIS time, but they didn't last time and might not next time. That's the message.

Precisely. The issues of broader institutional control are concerning, no doubt. But what really makes me despair is that significant numbers of Americans either just don't care at all or care but are on the wrong side of basic morality and consitutional order.

I am not letting individual voters off the hook either. Republican voters had a choice to back up what they said about morality and civic duty being more important than politics, and they showed their true colors.

this is a great brief and it appropriately ends with a killshot: the simple observation that if trump's meaning held, the birthright clause would not have overturned dred scott, the one thing it was absolutely meant to do.

It doesn't help that about 1/4 to 1/3 of Americans are so utterly selfish that they just don't see themselves as part of a shared community. Toxic individuality sells here more than elsewhere.

Just tell them you flossed even without doing it right before the appointment. It's one of society's unspoken agreements that they know we're lying, we know that they know, but we agree to pretend this is not the case.
