This one was designed to present Fairmount and its sister neighborhood Brewerytown's history as the beer brewing hub of early Philly. The beer is the base to match that, and we use the Chambord to give it a shandy like flavor. The Rye pumps up the flavor and the ABV. Lemon oil brings it together!

Next up in my Neighborhoods series: the Fairmount!

1oz Rye whiskey
.5oz Chambord
2.5oz Lager

Stir the whiskey and Chambord together over ice. Pour into your chilled glass. Add the lager in after. Express lemon oil over the glass.

Two small things tho: I had intended to use Bluecoat barrel aged gin for this, but couldn't procure it (thanks PA state stores) so used another local gin alongside oak bitters. Also, I would have used Philly Distilling absinthe, but cost was a concern so used what I had (which is bottled in KoP!)

The goal for this drink was to make something that feels reminiscent of the Manhattan (what with Rittenhouse being the bougie district) but also simple, allowing the ingredients to sing. In testing the difference a spirit could bring out was quite pronounced, a lot like a classic Manhattan.

It was traditionally made with rock sugar (hence the name), so adding it as a garnish adds visual flair and a touch of sweetness as it melts into the drink.

They've been making a product called Rock and Rye for ages. And so, I tried to make a cocktail version of that! The use of Rye whiskey, orange liqueur, and the baking spices from Angostura all blend to create the classic blend of flavors. The rock candy harkens to the drinks namesake.

The goal with this drink was to celebrate something unique about Kensington that affected cocktails as a whole, and turns out, Kensington is the home of Jacquins, a liquor/liqueur company thats been around since the 1800s.

and pucker up. I chose it to act as a sort of saline solution, but also to call back to the Fishtown neighborhood's history as a home to the cities fishermen. Finally, the expression of lime over the drink binds all the flavors together, harmonizing the drink.

A kinda weird one to celebrate the unique quirks of Fishtown as a neighborhood. The flavor pallete is vanilla forward, but fades into the sweetness of the rum, and some of the bitterness and floral notes of the chili. The fish sauce funk is barely detectable, but makes your mouth water (cont.)

With all that, I plan to do the following neighborhoods: Fishtown, Kensington, Rittenhouse Square, Fairmount/Art Museum, and one more that I'll leave to anyone who wants to give me a challenge!

I've already got a couple of them put together, and I'll try to post one a week! Expect one later...

3. Where possible, the cocktails should be built from spirits found in and around Philadelphia.
4. The cocktails themselves should present the neighborhoods well. No jokes or mean spirited ideas involved.
5. The drinks should taste good to more than just me!

06.02.2026 23:25 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

My goals for the project are as follows:
1. The drinks should be spirit forward: no juices, syrups, etc involved.
2. The ingredients for each drink should be available relatively widely; they are meant to be standards, not boutique drinks. (With one small exception that I can justify)
