(2.) Personally, I'd love for them to explore the more sinister, creepy, and eldritch horror vibe of idoneth, like (to again use another IP/universe as an example) the hive from destiny.

To name a few:
A re-imagined, deep sea version of a hydra

The whale thing from first battletome cover

A akhelian king/ volturnous mounted on a crustacean dragon monster (imagine something similar to the chasmfiend from the stormlight archive series)

And I'm just going to reiterate what I've said elsewhere. We waited 7 years for a new, proper release, and that was all we got. It's so profoundly disappointing that I'm having a hard time finding the words to express said disappointment😅

Regarding the the deepkin release. I know I should be glad we got new models at all, and attempt leaks two of them looks kinda good. But 3 foot heroes and a manifestation was not what deepkin needed.

Yeah I agree, it would be a very odd "wave".

I know I should be stoked for new deepkin models, as they are my favorite, and I don't want to be negative/doom&gloomy, but if we waited almost ten years for two foot heroes and some endless spells I might just give up on the faction. So fingers crossed there us more!
