SUPREME COURT OF THE UNITED STATES
No. 25-385 (25A378)
CHARLES RAY CRAWFORD v. MISSISSIPPI ON APPLICATION FOR STAY AND ON PETITION FOR A WRIT OF CERTIORARI TO THE SUPREME COURT OF MISSISSIPPI
[October 15, 2025]
The application for stay of execution of sentence of death presented to JUSTICE ALITO and by him referred to the Court is denied. The petition for a writ of certiorari is de-nied.
JUSTICE SOTOMAYOR, with whom JUSTICE KAGAN and
JUSTICE JACKSON join, dissenting from the denial of application for stay and denial of certiorari.
Charles Ray Crawford will be executed tonight for a crime that his own lawyers told the jury he committed, despite his express instructions not to do so. Had this case come to this Court on direct appeal, Crawford could have proved that his Sixth Amendment rights were violated under our decision in McCoy v. Louisiana, 584 U.S. 414
(2018), in which we held that lawyers may not override a defendant's explicit and unequivocal decision not to concede guilt at trial. He would also likely be entitled to a new trial, as a McCoy violation is a structural error that mandates reversal.

Charles Ray Crawford has identified an important constitutional issue that this Court has not addressed and has divided courts around the country. The Court refuses to

The Supreme Court's Republican appointees let Mississippi kill Charles Ray Crawford tonight, despite treatment at trial that was of the same type that SCOTUS later held in another case is unconstitutional.

All three Democratic appointees, in a lengthy dissent, would have kept him alive.

I’m old enough to remember when we had a system of checks & balances that involved Congress, when Congress controlled the purse and legislated, and the president respected the Constitution & rule of law. I’m old enough to remember when a U.S. president wouldn’t want to be King George or a dictator.

I am teaching my first poetry class for @theubergroup.bsky.social this evening. A little nervous, but so excited. It'll go for 2 weeks and discuss rhythm and how to scan a poem. Hopefully it'll be informative and fun. #poetry #teach #learning #ubergroup #nervousButExcited

I'm sorry, but this feels like such a judgemental statement. There are valid reasons for exclamation points, even in writing. Unless you want to write something like, "'Stop,' he exclaimed."

Forget grammar, get the story written. If grammar edits are needed, they'll come much later.

Night Stories

At night,
When I struggle to sleep,
I tell stories to myself.

Promising
That when I wake up,
I’ll write them down.

But I never do,
When I wake up, the stories
Wisp away like smoke
To the land of broken dreams.

Let us have no illusions. No individuality will achieve anything great alone if there is no cooperation with others. Only in "we" can we be happy. From "we," we started, and in "we," we must end.

Day 28: Coffee or Tea

Every morning, my husband
Comes into my office an takes my coffee mug
Then he goes downstairs
And makes me a latte

After he brings it up for me,
He’ll go back downstairs and make one
For himself

It’s his way of showing he loves me.

The rest of the day,
If I want a drink that’s not water,
I’ll have hot or cold tea.

I prefer the taste of tea
Except for that first morning latte.

At this juncture I’d like to point out:
* we’re on the brink of a golden age of medical healing
* there’s enough money in the world to solve every problem in the world
* a united approach could stop the climate crisis
But a small group of sociopaths seeking personal power are going to throw it away.

Day 26: Spring

ADHD is
Oh it’s raining today
like a spring…
I wonder if the tulips will be out in time for Mother’s Day
Your brain never stops
I’m almost finished my book, need to find a new one.
Bouncing
Soon we’ll be able to turn the heat off
From one idea
Need to remember the…shoot, what was it I needed to remember???
To another.
Where did I put that book?

Day 25: Story

Tell me a story, I want to hear
Of a time when living wasn’t so drear.

Oh dear! Let’s see,
Going back through history…

The rich have always had it good…
Upon the backs of others they stood.

The poor and those who didn’t fit
By race or gender, they were bent

To make the stairs the wealthy climbed
All through history, time after time.

It matters not what era you look in,
The tale’s the same, just a diff'rent spin

Even in periods where it was better,
Where wealth was spread a little thinner,

Even then, as you can see,
There was a lot of disparity

Not as much in rich vs poor,
But human rights still had more

To go to make us equal
To see all earthlings as one people

Who deserve, one and all,
Unbiased rights to be the law.

Leftists and left Democrats have little influence in the Democratic Party because their only way of demonstrating power is causing Democrats to lose, not helping them to win. No party is going to favor their most unreliable voters. If your position is always "or I won't vote for you" you cede power
