I saw this coming, being a depressive sort, and see independence as a life raft now, but previously as the possibility of setting up something different and showing England a democratic socialist possibility.

What worries me the most is that Labour, Tory, and Reform are all talking about the ECHR compliance as negotiable or an enemy. That chills me. There's a reason for its existence, and its millions of dead humans.

The level of public discussion in the run up to the referendum here was amazing, detailed, broad. We had about 18 months to talk, and from a predominantly socialist position. A wonderful time, despite the result. Since then we were forced to leave the EU and Reform has taken hold.

He's an old communist. He's still got the revolution in his head, and at his age I'm kind of glad he's not gone all conservative. We have good conversations.

And somehow England avoids fascism. Somehow. Denton, you give me some hope.

Which is the worst outcome as I see it. My father, a staunch supporter of Scottish independence - as am I - is an accelerationist. He wants England to follow this seemingly inevitable path to fascism and thus make the case for independence a matter of survival. I would rather Starmer went.
