Dear my delightful tweeps, some news! So after 30 years of City Hall and urban-issues stories that you all know, I'm doing something completely different β€” I’ve decided to run for a City Council nomination with @onecityvan.bsky.social and hopefully run on their slate this October.

Not only a humanitarian catastrophe but a condition that makes a popular democratic revolution impossible. Internecine violence and state collapse are very much on the table, though.

What are the polymarket odds on the USA coming up with a coherent Iran policy by the end of Trump’s term?

It Wasn't Fascism All Along Conservatism was a distinct ideology but it is dead and it is not coming back.

"Conservatism is not merely dead, fascism has paraded the body around, peeled off its face, and is wearing it as a mask for its own amusement as it does a demented little dance." www.liberalcurrents.com/it-wasnt-fas...

Lots of folks cling to the idea that this comes down to Biden's inability to "sell" these accomplishments. I'm sorry, though, that's pure cope. Whiny resentfulness toward Dems & cities is *constitutive* of the RW worldview today, not something that can be turned on & off with policy.

Hoping for contact termination so he can sign a new deal somewhere else for league minimum? Is that legal under the CBA?

To be fair to Kane there hasn’t been any evidence of toxicity from him around our team, outside of the Kash Patel cancer of course. We basically saw the best case scenario in terms of behaviour/chemistry out of him, but the acquisition was still so poorly conceived that we couldn’t flip him πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ

When I see Ohgren out there eating Pod’s old number I ask myself, why isn’t there room on the roster for both those big bodies? The fact he wasn’t in their plans is also an indictment; their plans stank. He wasn’t a Tocchet guy but in the end this wasn’t even a Tocchet team. Oh well

When you bail out a division rival by taking on an unflippable asset and all it costs is a draft pick during a rebuild and $5 million of cap space you could have used for your affordable 3C you could have resigned and then actually flipped

This appalling White House video game imagery on Iran illustrates what @teotten1.bsky.social and I discuss on today's pod: The role of fantasy, unreality and sadism-as-entertainment in MAGA politics.

The Kane experiment was a total rakestomp. We effectively traded Podkolzin for him.

there's a thing I like to call "load-bearing assumptions", that you don't notice until they're suddenly gone (e.g the air you breath has oxygen in it).

the post-ww2 order is a load-bearing assumption for basically the entirety of american life. trump took a sledgehammer to it in the last 90 days.

I can't get over this, from @jonathankarl.bsky.social. Trump is working the phones to journalists, talking about his war as a "performance."

What a remarkable statement. Both true and chilling.

Went to Quilchena park for a round disc golf, only to discover there’s a OneBC event across the street at the Greek Orthodox Cathedral. Featuring Dallas Brodie and Tara Armstrong, with members of the Sons of Odin allegedly working security.

War is not a morality play.

The relevant question isn’t: Are the targets bad people who have done bad things?

The relevant question is: Will going to war make things better, achieving something that’s worth the death and suffering it causes?

there's a madman in the white house, he's illegally started a war, he's offered no explanation to the public other than an insane conspiracy theory that Iran somehow tried to interfere in last year's election, and the opposition leaders are releasing statements full of mixed support and concern
