The idea that pornography in an of itself cannot be artistic expression is, put shortly, some bullshit.
I *genuinely* do not care if it's "what're you doing stepbro" porn or whatever. Someone had to do makeup, lights, and shoot the fucking (ha) thing. That alone is art.
Yes! Which itself borrowed from Isaac Hayes π www.youtube.com/watch?v=qfVb...

05.12.2025 16:47 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Oh! And I keep forgetting - "College Wrestler Secrets" is in Kobo Plus, too. So if you have a subscription (or try their trial) you can read it for free π
Actually, all of my usually-paid books are in Kobo Plus I think...
I should say that CWS isn't a *romance* like 'Heated Rivalry' though the guys do have feelings for each other beyond just "dang, he looks good in a singlet"
05.12.2025 16:20 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I hate to toot my own horn, but 'College Wrestler Secrets' won first place in the gay erotica category in the @alexasommers.bsky.social 2024 Golden Pigtails Smut Awards π alexasommers.com/the-golden-p... π€©
Ahem, and the ebook is discounted to $2.99 at the moment!
Look, as someone who has written two VERY filthy books about wrestling, I'm not saying all this attention on kissing hockey boys is misguided, but...
π
(obviously I support all yums, this is in jest, etc. etc.)
That feeling when one of your characters says something - it really does seem like it came from them, not your own brain - and you realize this is going to dovetail so wonderfully into the book's conclusion π₯Ή

A lot of indie authors are (justifiably) raising their prices due to increased fees, but I actually just DROPPED the price of Forget Me Knot for (*mumble mumble reasons*)
The paperback is just $11.99 now! If you like mythology-inspired queer fantasy romance rife with pining, humor, & healingππ½ππ
If I had the roads to myself, I wouldn't be so unnerved - it's all the other drivers that make me anxious! π
04.12.2025 17:47 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I love it, even though so much about winter unnerves me. Storms, and power cuts, and trees falling, and driving in the ice... and yet I can't deny it's gorgeous, too.
04.12.2025 17:41 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0It has snowed here, this past week, but today is one of those very cold, very crisp, very dry days where the sky is a stark and almost furious blue, too bright to stare at through the bare trees.
04.12.2025 17:30 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Agreed, though I'm now trying to imagine the process of settling on that name π
04.12.2025 15:40 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0This is one of those times when I remember that those of us who see nuance and detail have a much bigger struggle, trying to coalesce on a stance that everyone is happy with, versus those who just scream "BAN THE FILTH" π«
04.12.2025 15:24 β π 4 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I can understand that reluctance. I think people in the romance world have had a loooong experience with being dismissed as something frivolous or unimportant; I could certainly see some being wary of inviting definitions that might exacerbate that.
04.12.2025 15:04 β π 4 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0This is "hit refresh because you assumed your browser had failed to load the image" color
04.12.2025 14:47 β π 4 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0This is a really good question. I guess I see it as a spectrum much like being queer generally, where some members of that group are more at risk than others? And so it's on those who have more stability to do their best to help those with less? I'm probably not phrasing that well, though.
04.12.2025 14:42 β π 4 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Anyway. I'm not entirely sure I have a conclusion, bar knowing that Ro is correct and that - when we're (rightly) discussing things like who gets to tell whose story - people who would ban honest representation of sexuality and love in all its forms won't see such nuance. We're all in this together.
04.12.2025 14:31 β π 12 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Yet I know full well that people wanting to ban or censor the smut I write won't then look at my stories about men falling in love and having sex and say "oh, well, this is *art* not like that other filth" and move on! Regardless of how I (inadvertently) partition genres in my own head.
04.12.2025 14:31 β π 8 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I suspect the majority of that 'obligation' is my own hangup about what it means to be a 'real' romance writer. Especially one who started out writing erotica, and who's aware that the audience for that (traditionally) isn't necessarily the same as the audience (traditionally) for m/m romance.
04.12.2025 14:31 β π 7 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I read this last night and have been thinking about it ever since, because even as someone who eagerly writes on a spectrum from queer romance to unadulterated filth (and loves - and is proud of! - it all) I've still found myself feeling obliged to 'justify' the explicitness in my romance stories.
04.12.2025 14:31 β π 23 π 5 π¬ 1 π 0Ten years ago on December 14th I posted "Dolph," after a conversation among some queer friends and fellow authors about "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer," and it started a tradition of re-telling holiday stories through a queer lens thatβs been going for a decade now.
04.12.2025 11:18 β π 37 π 17 π¬ 1 π 3Also, I've been struggling to compile this, so if you work at an indie bookstore that will take books direct from authors/any distributor that isn't Ingram or the Big 5, can you please let me know below?
I have a small list but would love more!
I'm excited! Not least because I think I'm going to release a slightly more mainstream romance next year, and I'd been dithering over whether I should bother figuring out print or not. π
03.12.2025 18:21 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0π€― Thank you! This is genuinely shocking to me, but in a good way (though also a "you should've been releasing paperbacks for ages, Alex, you fool" way, haha)
Thank you so much for sharing, I guess I know what I'll be doing in 2026!
